If its any consolation I was supposed to ref two games tonight. I did the first one but no-one turned up for the second one because of the ice hockey. So I got to go home 2 hours earlier and I still get paid 8)

Nuts

Post by Gonzo » Thu May 06, 2004 9:00 pm

Bugger!
I was really getting into it too. Almost had a heart attack it was so exciting! I'm not used to all this end-to-end stuff with lots of goals! I'm more used to the slow plodding pace of football. Or test cricket... five days, nothing happens and it ends a draw...

Did I miss something? :?

Don't Finland have players in the NHL too?

Meanwhile, Scanners is on tonight. That's some consolation...
Cos it's strange, isn't it. You stand in the middle of a library and go 'Aaaaaagghhh!!' and everyone just stares at you. But you do the same thing on an aeroplane, and everyone joins in.

The Finnish team was full of NHL players. I thought they played better than my team - but I'm not going to complain about our win. Bittersweet though :(

Taken from another web site

On September 29, 2003, Heatley was seriously injured after he lost control of the Ferrari 360 Modena he was driving and struck a wall, splitting the car in half and ejecting him and his passenger. Heatley suffered a broken jaw, a minor concussion, a bruised lung and, bruised kidney, and tears of three ligaments in his right knee; his passenger, teammate Dan Snyder, was critically injured with a skull fracture, fell into a coma, and died six days later on October 5. Heatley has been charged with vehicular homicide as a result of the crash.

The talk of the town is that Americans are feverishly clipping off the Canadian disguise flags off their backpacks and sowing stars and stripes on instead...

Explanation...

Yes he did accidentally kill one of his best friends.

"Because Heatley wasn't drunk, and Snyder's relatives said they forgave him, prosecutors could decide the car crash was just an accident, with no need to pursue felony charges and sentences ranging from three to 15 years." From http://www.thehockeyboard.com/article.p ... 3225603722

Well, he wouldn't come after you Simon, but it is a bit insensitive to call him that without knowing all the details. If Snyder's family supports Heatley, and it was their child who died in the accident, perhaps others should not pass such harsh judgement. Heatley is going to have to live the rest of his life knowing that his reckless driving killed his friend - so that is a pretty big burden to carry. He's a great hockey player and deserves recognition for that, even if he made a very serious mistake in his life.

I totally agree with you BAT.

I wouldnt wish that burden on anyone, but you know people are called names and things all the time but life goes on, we really would be weak if we got upset at being called names.

ANyway if it makes all better I retract my statement, delete my post if you feel you have to... whatever
