Hello everyone...
I'm Syrian who moved to Finland recently... I have a permanent residency and an Alien's passport. I booked a Ticket to Istanbul to visit my friends and it's not refundable, I thought i will not need a visa because Finnish passports don't need visas and also Syrian passport that i don't have at the moment. so apparently i need a visa and i need 2 weeks to get it, but my flight is in 7 days....
is it possible to arrive to Istanbul airport and get the visa from there and pay for it? or anyone tried before to go to Istanbul with this Alien passport (green passport) without a visa and got in?
your reply is highly appreciated
I'm very desperate here

I came across this piece of information, however this is from the webpage of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm, Sweden. Hope this helps.
"What are the requirements for holders of travel documents?
Holders of travel documents, such as alien’s passport and refugee travel document, are required to have a consular visa to enter into Turkey. They are strongly recommended to apply to the nearest Turkish Embassy/Consulate for the visa at least 6 weeks in advance, since their application is subject to the approval of the Ministry of Interior of Turkey."

Alien passport is NOT the same as Finnish passport. It's just apiece of paper to prove your identity internationally. Beyond that, you have 0 advantages with it. There are very very few countries that don't require visa for EU-issued alien passports, and Turkey isn't one of them.
Yes, you need a visa.
Note: Prepare yourself for a lengthy and annoying process when you enter EU after coming frim Turkey. As a holder of Syrian passport myself, it was nearly 3 hours of waiting and questioning. It was even worse for me because I landed directly in Helsinki. I was even asked to visit the police a couple of weeks after coming back.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

You keep asking what would happen if you enter Turkey.. Forget about that. You won't be allowed to enter Turkey with only an alien passport in the first place. You need to apply for a visa
before going.
Holders of travel documents, such as alien´s passport and refugee status, cannot obtain visas at port of entry but should apply to the consulate in person for a visa at least six weeks in advance as their application has to be approved by the Ministry of Interior in Turkey

Most likely the airline won't even let him board as they are liable to fly him back _when _ the entry is denied.

Visa is for visiting, Residence Permit for residing.

Airline will not take you. You will be refused during check-in or boarding.
Sorry but this is the only and correct answer.

You won't be travelling to Turkey without a visa in that passport, as Adnan says its a very restricted document.

The airline won't take you. If they let you on the flight and you are stopped in Turkey, the airline can be fined for allowing you to have got on the plane in the first place.
Can I ask..... If you just moved to Finland "recently", how do you have permanent residency already? It takes years to get it.

I doubt he has permanent residency. The most likely scenario is that he applied fir asylum and git an RP type A (4 years).
