insult and assault
Re: insult and assault
Being drunk was a long time not unacceptable in Finland but this attitude is changing.
How hard the court will come down on you depends on the judge. And it seems they are becoming more strict.
If there has not been a real fight, I agree that it's unlikely you'll go to jail. Although I would not exclude a suspended sentence.
A steep fine is almost certain however.
And yes, a conviction for assault will remain in your record and will have influence on RP related matters.
In court you have several options;
a- plea guilty, say you're sorry and accept the punishment.
b. try to describe it as a minor incident which is taken out of proportion. (in the hope you'll get of light.)
c. don't show up.
d. play the race card.

If this incident is typical for his behaviour (drunk, aggressive) I don't see a long lasting marriage for him. And then the RP matter will be resolved.tummansininen wrote:Visa based on marriage? Excellent, they can cancel a visa when someone is violent and send them back where they came from.wtahell wrote:Guys ,, Topic is about "how much fine? or no fine at all"
what are you talking about ,, ,,Visa ,apply citizenship
you guys have a nightmare called... visa, citizenship.stay in the country. married for visa
also "racism" what racism. you don.t know what is racism is ,, look at the world news and you know what racism is ,, Finland has no "racism"
i think you guys full of hate and anger , i post one topic and hell comes.. most of you put his hate and anger on me
only one good answer from "Upphew"

Re: insult and assault
I think you guys misunderstood one part. By saying:
Now, saying that it's worse in somewhere else in the world doesn't mean that the situation in Finland is suddenly better. Of course, I don't expect you to understand what relative privation is.
He means that foreigners (in this case, us) are so afraid of visas/RP/citizenship stuff just to stay in the country, and some even get married just for an RP. He's trying to criticize. Due to his awful English, that was lost in translation.wtahell wrote:you guys have a nightmare called... visa, citizenship.stay in the country. married for visa
There is racism in Finland, and it's manifested by discrimination in many areas of life, on all kinds of levels, and by many types of people. Is it the biggest problem Finland has? I don't think so. But does it exist? Yes.wtahell wrote:you don.t know what is racism is ,, look at the world news and you know what racism is ,, Finland has no "racism"

Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

First time getting caught maybe?adnan wrote:What a shame! He assaulted the cashier and he threatened to kill her. Given it's a combination of assault and a verbal threat, this can easily be an "aggravated threat to kill". To be honest, I don't know about the Finnish law when it comes to intoxication as a mitigating factor.Upphew wrote:First timer wouldn't sit a night in jail anyway and 75% of assaults get fines: http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pahoinpitely
The way OP is writing, he doesn't strike me as a first timer, though.

First time I hear someone call security guards nice
The law is there in Finlex, you can actually get more sentence from the insult these days. You might not need to "go to court" as its a waste of time and money. They send you a "plea bargain" of sorts, that you agree on the public prosecutors demand and won't plea... Then the verdict is what it is. Can be community service as well as a fine.
Next time over, they don't sell you beer, go find some teenagers and ask them to ho buy the beer for you

Re: insult and assault
Theres been a lot of talk lately, that the justice system is way too lenient. It was quite draconian in the 50's and 60's and swungvto the other end of the pendulum in the 70's and 80's.

People like this give the rest of us foreigners a bad name.
Even if he didn't physically assault anybody. And especially because he seems to think what he did is OK, as long as he didn't physically assault anybody. Somehow spitting and verbal abuse are OK and deserve a slap on the wrist or something.

some people think they can post about anything and get support.
the random drunk violence support thread:
"hey, i tend to spit on shop assistants when they don't want to sell me beer, is that ok? sure you understand? oh, i hope i don't get fined!"
Re: insult and assault
Fine value will be derived from your annual income - so do the math yourself when sober otherwise it may look too much
Next time while drunk try to spit on incoming Metro

I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse. I'm gonna grant him all my old underwears that fit his head helping his nose stays in place
Re: insult and assault
Actually what i have understood being drunk is and was always understood, its just not a excuse of all behaviour.rinso wrote:Being drunk was a long time not unacceptable in Finland but this attitude is changing.
Drunk is not always coherent etc. and thats understood but violent behaviour is always not, in case where you wake up drunk and he swings is (wtf came here!) understanable (same can happen by deep sleapers) etc..
Being drunk is not excuse by law.
