Happened again..nurse thought I'm using another's KELA card.

FOR THE LOVE OF PETE.

Went in for blood work and the nurse was like OMG, she was reading over and over again my doc's papers specifying what type of blood testing I need. Checked my KELA card to see if it was real.

Blood work went well, but she wouldn't let me go until I told her my social number and she made sure it checked with the test results she was holding in her hand.

Unless she was really OCD I can't think of anything why this would happen. I can't help it I look fabulously foreign lol :D but come on lol!

I'm not trying to pull the "this is racist" card but the doctor asked for photo ID just a couple months ago and it's getting mighty tiring!

Maybe where you go has been put on alert for fraud??? To be on the lookout for fraud???

It's only twice it's happened. There are 1000's of medical staff. I don't think they're targeting you specifically. It could be they are just diligent with their jobs. You can't know how they are with every single other patient.

Look at it positively..... You know they're being very thorough. And if they're being this thorough with checking your I.D, then they just might be taking care of you really well too :)

Don't stress it, I say :)

There are much more worrying things to be bothered over :)

Thanks! :) I agree, and it wouldn't surprise me if there is some fraud thing. Vantaa....sounds about right LOL! :D

I'll get one of those ID thingies with the KELA info on it..I hope that'll calm it down a bit if it continues. Good point though since my regular docs are used to me and don't card me every time lol! :D

It could just be it's because you have one of the older style cards without a picture??? I think the picture cards are becoming more and more popular.

And well, like you say, it's Vantaa..... :D That's getting more and more !"#¤% :D

this.

i, too, have a kela card without picture; i got totally used to it, it always requires some extra picture id (i usually offer my driving license, which looks a lot like this. i enjoy the confusion this sometimes causes - confusion, but never protest).

though, in terveyskeskus? that's a little weird.
would be interesting to know how you look, to assess how racist they're being.
or, your first name wouldn't be "osama", or your last name "bin laden" or any combination of the two???

KELA cards? The ones with picture were discontinued already good number of years ago.

Was it the test results or the vials with blood? Because they always ask nowadays for name and social security number and double check with the labels they stick on the vials so that they don't put on by mistake someone else's labels.

You're thinking wrong. This is the exact opposite of what is happening.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

It was a bit strange with the doctor. I resemble a Roma woman VERY MUCH due to my varied heritage so security guards follow me around all the time, you name it. Though I speak with a southern US accent lol.

You pegged it! It was the vials of blood! The previous nurses never bothered to double check so this time it really caught me off guard. At least I know if it happens in the future they're just double checking!

Thanks!

Doesn't seem that strange what happened... or I didn't get it properly.

I went to have an x-ray the other day and was actually surprised they only took my kela card and didn't ask for ID. The kela card does not identify a person if it doesn't have a photo.

With blood tests they are usually careful. Ha, nw I forgot how it was when I gave blood here, but in the UK the nurses would always ask my name and dob at several points during the donation and confer to see if everything agreed with the.

On Friday I was in Helsinki and SWMBO badgered me into a Dr appointment over what I regarded as minor symptoms. The Dr ordered X-Rays, blood tests and ECG then, seeing the results, sent me straight to hospital where they kept me in for 48 hours whilst they did loads more tests including CT scan and ultrasound. I just got out this afternoon. The amazing thing is that in all that time nobody at the Dr or the hospital asked to see my kela card or any form of ID, and they will both send their bills by post. So I have received lots of expensive treatment and left without paying a cent, yet they just took my word for it that I am who I say I am. I don't speak Finnish and my name is clearly not a Finnish name. I did have my kela card and my passport with me had they been asked for, but they were never requested.
