I highly recommend mobile data connection for home use from the ISP that don't have any data limits. At the moment here is 2 operators that gives you unlimited data plan. So neither Saunalahti or DNA mobile connection. Saunalahti has better countrywide coverage they say but DNA has better download speed with same example 50M connection. Those given download speeds are maximum speeds in the best possible conditions like strong signal with a low number of current users. Specially DNA might be worth of thinking at the capital area if the signal is ok.
Before making any contracts I also recommend to buy a Prepaid connection. Just a basic prepaid for phone is enough because mobile internet uses the same network. Check out both Saunalahti and DNA signal in the place and even in the same room where the mobile router or laptop is going to be placed.
I hope with these advices you get the best possible connection for your needs.

Re: Mobile internet for home use
I have been testing the Sonera mobile connection for a while now and I am not impressed. Occasionally I did get acceptable speeds, but for days now it has been so slow it is unusable. By that I mean even speedtest.net times out so I could not even get speed figures to quote. Today I have managed to take 2 tests: 0.12 and 0.10 Mbps download and 0.13 Mbps upload!
To be fair, I cannot be sure that the problem is on the mobile side. I am testing with a desktop PC connected to the modem via wifi. This PC did not previously have a wifi facility so I just bought a USB dongle from Expert. This is a Konig brand device which I selected because it was all they had in stock
Maybe that is the bottleneck. To eliminate that I have ordered a 4G router with a cabled connection so I can test with a cable instead of wifi. If that doesn't work I will abandon the mobile option.

Re: Mobile internet for home use
A or perhaps the problem with mobile connections is that operators do not impose practical restrictions on number of subscribers per cell, not the least because I might very well be impossible because the connections are well mobile. This leads to intolerable congestion at times, well all the time to be frank, especially at newer residential areas where a great deal of households are not connected to landlines at all. Anyway you might consider an extra antenna even if your signal is strong. A former colleague of mine who worked with 4G protocols told the cells favor subscribers with strong signal to maximize cell throughput or bandwidth. Anyway yours truly whined to the operator about the unacceptably unreliable and snail pace connection, and low and behold they added cell or cells in the area to reduce congestion. Truth be told I doubt my whining, sorry, feed back had anything to do with, it probably was scheduled improvement.DMC wrote:...

Re: Mobile internet for home use
The 4G router with wired LAN ports arrived today and I have been testing it. Early days yet but it is looking good. Download speeds over 40 Mbps and upload around 16. If that continues I will be happy.
Re: Mobile internet for home use
That's the issue I had, early mornings and weekends 30-50 Mb second, come afternoon especially on working days and bang a mere trickle of 250k and unreliably at that. Well I hope it works for you.DMC wrote:The 4G router with wired LAN ports arrived today and I have been testing it. Early days yet but it is looking good.
