Best Credit Cards?

Post by californiakontio » Thu Jun 01, 2017 12:12 pm

Looking for advice on the best credit cards to have in Finland which provide benefits such as airline lounge club access and points, etc. Thoughts?

Dinners used to have free access but now they are charging 18€ for each entry. Probably some Amex from Gold up includes Priority Pass but the yearly fee is from 170€ up.

Diners and Amex are only for Donald Drumpf and friends.

If it looks like you're getting something for free it's because you have already paid for it many times over!

I was offered Amex as a retailer and quickly found out they took 5% provision.5X then and moreX now for Visa and MC.

As I was running a low margin system - it was impossible to knock off 5 % - and that was without ALV - so it went up significantly.

I did get an Amex card myself many years earlier but quickly found when using on trips that only the high-margin shops honored it.

Overall - Diners-Amex are not cards for ordinary folk.

Reviving this old post. Anyone know of any credit cards with no membership fees and has some points with purchases?

AFAIK there are none. Diners in Finland has closed shop, so that's not an option anymore. Haven't really looked into it, but possibly Amex is the only one with some kind of point system of their own (not including frequent flyer etc. some providers may include in theirs).

Some time ago people were raving about the Norwegian card, only that the interest rate is high. you get points with Norwegian. not sure if that still holds.

S-pankki has Visa, but they don't have points, they just give money back.

S-pankki: Purchases made on credit are invoiced once a month and an invoice management fee of 2 € / electronic invoice or 3.5 € / paper invoice is added to the invoice.

Don't understand the point of a credit card if there are no points/cash back

2/3½€ if you use the credit. If you pay your bill, you can splurge that 2€ to parking or something like that.

Try to book hotel without one. Or buy stuff online.

I've routed all my purchases via Norwegian cc these days, just make sure to pay it off at the end of the month. Went to Rome for free (tickets) with my wife.

Nothing good I can find.

A platinum card could cost over 200€! Standard card comes with no purchase insurance.
Aktia seems to have the cheapest gold credit, 48€ a year.

200€ for a card is robbery! Dragonpass is only £16 per visit, 8 visits a year, same for PP except 10 visits.

Where are the cash back ones? And options to omit membership fee over minimum spending?

What do you mean by "purchase insurance"? Banks and credit providers do offer the possibility to make a claim against fraudulent charges on a card.

Never heard of such cards in Finland. Doesn't mean that they don't exist, but at least they're not the standard fair offered by most banks.

Also, often it's Nets or SEB (maybe there are others, but not that many in Finland) that are behind the Visa, Mastercard,... part of the card, not the banks offering them to their clients, albeit banks may add some services (travel insurance and what have you).

when a card or the number is stolen and used to make purchases, your money/credit is locked. If it's a debit card, money in that account would be locked for weeks until dispute resolution - which you'd win later for certain but having thousands of euros frozen is not something to be taken lightly.

I cut all my debit cards into pieces after learning that.
