Permanent contract on student visa

Post by mk4224 » Tue Oct 31, 2017 7:54 pm

Hi,

Is it possible to sign permanent contract in IT company salary range 3000€ per month if thesis is not done? So, on student visa, can someone sign permanent job contract? Or, it can be legal issue?

Thanks

I believe that you have to apply for a new residence permit based on work now and get a work permit as well. (to ensure you do not have to leave Finland as soon as your study is finished).
You can sign the contract already, this will make it easier in getting the residence permit and the work permit.

but Betelgeuse will know the specifics on this one...
If god would give us the source code, we could change the world

You can sign the contract, but you cannot commence the work beyond the allowed 25 hours per week. To have the right to work full time, you need to apply for a work-based residence permit. Once that's issued, you can start working.

Alternatively, you can apply for a specialist work-based residence permit since your salary is at least 3k. You can start working full time even before the residence permit is issued. Whether you'd get this one or not, that's a different story.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Are you doing the thesis for the same company? If yes, isn't that then part of the studies and thus you can work regular hours?

That page says that 25h/week if the work isn't related to your studies. Your job is clearly related to your studies, if you do your thesis there.

Then that's a different case. The 25 hours/week restriction doesn't apply in this case.

If you're thinking about staying in Finland after your thesis is done, apply for a work-based RP anyway.

I need to finish my thesis first otherwise it cannot change, I guess.

And, would it be problem for someone if he is doing thesis out of company and sign permanent contract? Working hours are flexible (it is average 25 h /week).. I have seen many who sign permanent contracts and work on thesis only..

thx
