Studying Chinese or Japanese

Is there a place where you can study one of these languages without knowing finnish? Helsinki has a school for east asian languages, but you need to speak finnish to get in.

You could check at least: ... ch/courses
also the summer universities
this course has just finished but follow for the new ones ... /?show=all

aalto university has loads of Japanese and Chinese courses, not sure if they are open for outsiders. The term has just finished so you should check what happens during the summer term.

however, since there will be no face to face teaching for quite some time, you could take lessons online, either use free duolingo or tandem, or use italk, etc.

You're obviously looking for close-quarters teaching (once that becomes an option again)? If not, you have tons of resources online. A few ones I use for Japanese:

Japanese Ammo with Misa (YouTube)
WaniKani (for Kanjis and vocab)
BunPro (grammar) (dictionary)
OJAD (, pitch accent information)

A lot of the English textbooks will sound kind of unnatural for spoken Japanese, and have mistakes, too.
