Dentist work as web developer

Hey everyone

Im dentist working in dubai and my wife is finnish

I have two plans and don’t know what to choose
1- my situation here in dubai is not bad but still not great , living here without children is fine but once i have children things will get complicated because schools are very expensive, my first option is to bring my wife here to live with me

2- My second option is to move to finland , but im planning to shift my career here to work as web developer because i dont want to go through the process of equivalency and exams which will cost alot and will take many years , i consider my self as junior front end developer but of course I don’t have university degree in that i was learning online and i have some certifications online

My question is what are the opportunities for me to work as web developer without degree, maybe start with internship then start working

You have no formal education in this field, and no work experience in this field.

Unless you know people in Finland who can recommend you, it is unlikely you would get an internship.

This kind of work can easily be offshored to india and the like and companies in Finland have relentlessly cut costs and staff and moved work to cheaper countries. so you are in competition with them (and always will be). Even if you get a job there will always be the thought that the company will move more and more work abroad (have a look at nokia employee numbers in Finland in 2005 compared to today).

if you want to live in finland you are better to get a career that is quite skilled, needs some formal training/certification and can't easily be moved abroad .. like being a dentist ! once you are accredited in Finland you will have a secure job for the rest of your life and will not be worried about the next round of job cuts.

If you're targeting a specialist job with relocation help, you need to be quite experienced - degree is not a problem, but not possible as junior.

Well how do people start in Finland?
Nobody can be senior from the first job
And what do you mean by relocation help , If I already have residence permit on family ties

I don't know the software job market but if I understand well, you
a) don't have any work experience
b) don't have any degree
c) you have only online certification
d) you are junior per your knowledge but not per your physical age

Is that sufficient for a prospective employer to get interested in hiring you? For me, it doesn't sound convincing though through connections it might be possible.

Honestly, being a dentist provides you eternal work opportunities in Finland and elsewhere and pretty good remuneration. There is hardly any other profession that has such good employment opportunities. Learning sufficient Finnish is not impossible either. If the reason why you are skeptical about this alternative is that you don't have proper educational qualifications in dentistry, then it is better to skip it, I doubt they would forgive any gaps.

If you and your wife don't live together now, I am sure you have considered other countries as well.

Hi there,
My advice stay in Dubai! I lived in Dubai ( 6 years ) and in Finland as well 8 years and still I prefer Dubai for many reasons including money , weather.. the only good thing In Finland is that I got their citizenship which it makes easier to travel specially if ur originally out of EU!
I would prefer good money with hot weather then weird cold people ( not all of them of course ) ,high taxation and !"#¤% weather

What if i told you that I don’t make enough money in dubai , dubai before 20 years is different than now , i was born in this city and. I know what i say
I still don’t have children here and im suffering , schools And healthcare in dubai are very expensive talking about taxes I believe when you pay that high taxes you have not to worry about schools and other stuff
Also i have question if you believe dubai is better why you don’t go back since you already got the citizenship? Im just curious don’t get me wrong

After graduation from university or completing a vocational degree people start as junior developer.

With 11 months studies followed by 5 months internship they are quite fast at preparing you for a position as junior web developer.

I was wondering that too. If you visit a software company, I guess you'd find most of their developers are seniors with some 5 years experiences at least, unlike in Asia where most are new. But it makes perfect sense for companies who care about quality.

They do hire juniors but probably few and not internationally. If you're already settled here you wouldn't need relocation help.

In many Asian countries people move to better countries when they get the opportunity for a better life.
Finns rarely move abroad.

Finnish companies know the Finnish education landscape, and what they can expect from someone with a Finnish education.

Students make internships and summer jobs and thesis at companies, and when the company sees the work of the student a job offer often comes without the student even asking. Or sometimes a professor or a fellow student who already works somewhere recommends you for a job, and then the job interview is only a formality.

He means that he and his friends/family are that kind of segment of society who do not move abroad. It is not true.
There are loads of people who study abroad, who work abroad, emigrate return and move around. The younger generation are extremely mobile, the world is their oyster.

People from poor countries often want to move to a rich country whenever there is an opportunity.
People from rich countries do not have strong benefits from moving to other countries.

In a poor country developers with several years of experience would move with their families to a different country to give their children better opportunities in life.

In Finland a developer with 5 years experience has a husband who also has a job, 2 children and no strong reason to move elsewhere.
