Crossing borders in car
I need to go from Finland to Germany (via Estonia, Latvia, Poland). What kind of border checks can I expect? And will a recent covid19 test work on the road border like it does at the airport?

And Lithuania.krapulassa wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 4:46 pmI need to go from Finland to Germany (via Estonia, Latvia, Poland).
The five different countries you want to enter have five different border rules, and each might change at any time.krapulassa wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 4:46 pmWhat kind of border checks can I expect? And will a recent covid19 test work on the road border like it does at the airport?
It would be less risky to take the ferry from Travemünde.
Re: Crossing borders in car
Magic word will be "transit" and it shall work for all checks.

Indeed ... "transit" applies when you remain within a transit area for the entire time you pass through that country. This can work for airports.
I'm unaware of any roads through Estonia, Latvia or Poland that are exclusively transit.

There are exceptions for transit when travelling on normal roads, but they differ in every country and may only apply when returning to your country of residence.SecretCode wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 3:42 pmIndeed ... Take the boat from Vuosaari to Travenmünde, problem solved.krapulassa wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 4:46 pmI need to go from Finland to Germany (via Estonia, Latvia, Poland). What kind of border checks can I expect? And will a recent covid19 test work on the road border like it does at the airport?
Re: Crossing borders in car
Cheaper, faster will be just to fly... Avoid Finnair as they require a convid test when returning to Finland, even Finland does not require one.... You will be tested at arrival.

Aren't them all in Schengen Zone?

They are, but the Schengen Convention does allow for temporary border controls in exceptional circumstances.
Temporary Reintroduction of Border Control
... Although I don't see Estonia, Latvia or Poland mentioned there.

How would you find out those exceptions? Do you have an example?FinlandGirl wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 4:04 pmThere are exceptions for transit when travelling on normal roads, but they differ in every country and may only apply when returning to your country of residence.SecretCode wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 3:42 pmIndeed ... Every country has a webpage explaining the rules, read the rules of every country you want to enter carefully.SecretCode wrote: ↑Mon Mar 08, 2021 11:36 amHow would you find out those exceptions?FinlandGirl wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 4:04 pmThere are exceptions for transit when travelling on normal roads, but they differ in every country and may only apply when returning to your country of residence.SecretCode wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 3:42 pmIndeed ... That page only mentions transit in airports, and it's only the Finnish border. I meant an example of another country (esp Poland, Latvia or Estonia) having different covid-19 rules for transiting by road from rules for arrivals to stay. It still seems unlikely to me, as they would have no way of checking.FinlandGirl wrote: ↑Mon Mar 08, 2021 12:52 pmhttps://raja.fi/en/guidelines-for-borde ... g-pandemic
