Unsalted butter?

Post by jimena_jr » Fri Mar 05, 2021 2:13 pm

Does anybody know where I could find unsalted butter that is NOT Valio's 5 euro suolaamaton voi in the Vantaa/Helsinki area? (what kind of crazy price is that)
Last summer I remember seeing organic unsalted butter at Lidl, but it seems they are not carrying it anymore :(

Salted or not salted, all real butter is about that kg price here in Finland (250gr).

The Valio is actually not even the most expensive, although the unsalted is only available as 1/2 kilo pack and the normally salted (1,5%) is half the price... both from Valio and Arla...only when bought in 1/2 kilo pack. The 250gr is overall the same kg price..or higher.

Dairy products are expensive when they come form Finland anyway.

Since butter is animal fat, it is unhealthy anyway, so why use it in the first place... better use a pant based replacement.

I would advice you to find a farmer who makes it him/her-self (if they still exist).

You could try Suonenjoen 500 g voi suolaamaton 3,45 (City market Kirkkonummi)

Yeah, I been looking for that very same butter in Lidl. The only one I could find, both unsalted and organic, is Santa Anna, in Prisma.
It does cost nearly twice as the Valio you mention but it feels like candy

Let's hope Lidl will have it back soon.

Actually, saturated fats from butter are much healthier than highly processed oils in margarine. But thanks for your input :D Regarding the price yeah, you're right, the per kilo price of Valio's unsalted is not that expensive, but 250 gr is more than enough for me since I use it sparingly (mostly in baking or to slather on homemade bread, yum).

Fingers crossed for that! I don't think my local Prisma carries Santa Anna but it does look good, I'll see where I can find it.

I buy it from Tripla and, according to Foodie, you can find it also from prisma Kannelmäki. Am sure a few other Prisma have it.

I saw, thank you :) Also figured that I could try and make it myself out of kuohukerma, if I'm feeling adventurous.
