Hi
I am planning to take a new car.
I have been researching options from BMW and Audi.
I see for my budget the possible options are 3 series (RWD) X1 (AWD) and Q3 (FWD)
I am inclined towards 3 series but the only problem is rear wheel drive.
Any advice if I can go with this option. I basically live in Espoo but I think I will drive up north occasionally in winters and cannot rule out bad roads (not necessarily terrains)
Will be on winter tyres for sure but is RWD that dangerous to even opt for.
Next obvious choice would be X1 as i am more for BMW than Audi.
Any advice on this is highly appreciated.
TIA.

Re: Car plan
I have driven a mix of 3 and 5 series for the past 14 years in Finland, all of them RWD with no problems in the winter even though I live in the countryside. If you apply too much power the TCS and ASC will take over, it's almost impossible to put the car in a spin even if you deliberately try (and i've tried).
I think having two wheels to steer and two to move the car forward is better than combining the roles in the same wheels.
The problem with AWD is that the fuel consumption is worse (more weight) and the larger AWD models are automatic only ( if you want a manual transmission).

Biggest downside of AWD is that if you exceed your driving skills in winter, it will have more speed when going to the ditch.riku2 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 12:55 pmI have driven a mix of 3 and 5 series for the past 14 years in Finland, all of them RWD with no problems in the winter even though I live in the countryside. yes, you should always remember that AWD might accelerate quicker than two wheel drive but they slow down at the same speed.Biggest downside of AWD is that if you exceed your driving skills in winter, it will have more speed when going to the ditch.
Re: Car plan
Thank you for the response.
I was reading over articles and was kind of scared to get 3 series and got disappointed. I am more inclined towards 3 series and good to hear RWD are not that scary.
