When can Permanent Residence be revoked? What if I become unemployed?

Where to buy? Where can I find? How do I? Getting started.

When can Permanent Residence be revoked? What if I become unemployed?

Post by ilmainen_siideri » Mon Jan 10, 2022 3:17 pm

Hi all,

I'm a bit confused about the rights of a Permanent Resident. I have a permanent residence status in Finland since 2019. My previous regular A-permits were on the basis of work.

If I stay in Finland, can Permanent Residentship be revoked by Migri on any grounds other than committing crime? How "permanent" is this status in general?

What if I become unemployed today?

It can be cancelled if you gave false information when applying for it.
It will be cancelled if you permanently move away from Finland.
It will likely be cancelled if another Schengen country asks Finland to cancel your Residence Permit (but usually you have to commit a crime for that).

That's not a problem.

that must be a very serious crime you don't want to have on your shoulders

Working in another EU country without having a Residence Permit for that country would be serious enough.

Is it true that it cannot be cancelled if the marriage/relationship that was the basis for getting it ends? I assume that is similar to the unemployment question...

Reading through the AMA on Reddit by Migri recently, I came across this curious response by Migri: https://www.reddit.com/r/Finland/commen ... h/lx9ok21/

Question:
If I get a permanent (P) residence permit based on work (specialist), does it mean that I'm allowed to quit my job and live on savings as long as I want?
Migri's answer:
Hi, permanent residence permit based on work means that your residing in Finland is based on work, so You must meet the conditions for a residence permit.
Is that a typo/misunderstanding on Migri's part? They seem to imply that a PR based on work means you must keep working after it is granted. But I thought once you get a PR, the reason for granting it becomes no longer relevant.

Bad answer. The relevant part is later in the response: "You can travel outside of Finland for maximum of two years, after that it is possible that your residence permit will be cancelled. "

What if I become unemployed today?
it will be revoked/cancelled in that case.
This is written on Migri website: https://migri.fi/en/cancellation-and-ex ... -residence:

- You move away from Finland.
- You no longer meet the requirements.
- You have knowingly given false information or kept some relevant information secret.
- You become a Finnish citizen.

That is not for PR. PR is not cancelled when one gets unemployed.
