Did anyone else not receive their personal identity code with the RP decision? Any next steps?

Post by jpfi1192 » Tue Dec 17, 2019 3:04 pm

Hi everyone!
I just got my positive decision for a specialist work RP. Unfortunately, the following notice came attached to it as well, saying that I wasn't able to get a personal ID code. They recommend that I go to the local register office to sort this out. I'm a bit worried about this and was wondering:

a) whether anyone else had been in this situation
b) if so, did this error caused any issues for you later on
c) if it is at all possible to sort this out before I move to Finland (since a personal identity code seems necessary for everything).

Also, on a (sort of) related note, does anyone know how long I have to get to Finland after receiving my RP card? I should receive that in early January, and I was looking at moving in mid-February.

Thank you! Here is the main part of the notice I received:

IDENTITY CODE, HOME MUNICIPALITY AND DATA PROTECTION
Dear customer
Under Finnish law, you will usually get a personal identity code when the Finnish Immigration
Service grants you a residence permit or otherwise makes a positive decision about your residence in Finland. When you are given a personal identity code, your personal data is registered
in the Population Information System, which is the national population register of Finland. The
data in the register is available for all Finnish authorities.
Unfortunately, you have not yet been given a personal identity code. This is due to one of the
following reasons:
1 You have not presented sufficient identification documents.
2 No Finnish authority has identified you in person during the residence permit process. This
can be the case if your application was received by an external service provider.
3 There is someone in the Population Information System whose name and date of birth are
similar to yours.
4 The registration failed due to a technical error.

You can get the personal identity code on the spot from the tax office. There's not much you can do out of country.

Until the last day of the validity period.

I just went to the local tax office and requested an I.D number and tax code for work. I filled in a form and then came back in an hour to collect them.
