Why is it so hard to get a doctor?

Hi All

My girlfriend is pregnant and she's been suffering with a chronic cough for over 3 months, we have tried to see a doctor but so far we've seen 7 nurses and no doctors. The only time we saw a doctor was yesterday who was Estonian and had nothing much to say because the nurse wouldn't stop talking over us, we couldn't say anything without that nurse jumping in being loud.

the same happened with a Russian doctor who looked like he just got out of high school, he came in the room for 2 minutes, prescribed anti-biotics and left.. they sort of worked, her infection level went from 21 to 11 and since she's off the anti-biotics the infection level is going back up and has gone up by 4 points in 2 days.

they're not testing her for anything.. this could be any number of issues including cancer as her mother and grandmother has had lung cancer but they are literally doing no tests. I thought Finland had a good healthcare system but you cant see a doctor and when you do finally get a doctor, it's russian or Estonian. We live together and i've not developed any cough, so i cant see how it could be just a casual infection and no casual infection lasts 3 months. She has also tested negative of corona.

I'm worried both her life and the baby could be at risk, what can we do?

I do not know when was those anti-biotics were prescribed, but if it was already during her pregnancy it is a very dangerous thing for her child, so that doctor is just a moron. Do not take any antibiotics during pregnancy!

You are spreading nonsense that might harm people if anyone believes it.

While there are some antibiotics that are not recommended during pregnancy, the penicillins that are usually prescribed for normal infections are known to not be a problem during pregnancy.

Go private.

we will, we decided that it's better to spend 200/month for a private doctor visit than rely on the public healthcare system.

honestly wouldn't be surprised if they did give something harmful, it was a Russian doctor and not to offend russian doctors but they dont have a good reputation here

Why? Did you require a translator? Estonian doctors speak English quite well. In Finland, be direct. Tell the nurse bluntly. "Sammeko sanoa", or "Kerramme asian läpi".

That's a well-known infection in Finland. It is the kind of infection that prescribes Burana for everything.

Sorry to hear, go private, and take the specialist route right away. If I were you, I'd book time with a pulmonologist ('keuhkolääkäri' in Finnish)

It is only Tetracyclines and Sulfonamides that are avoided, others are okay.

As Rinso suggested go private. Diacor or Mehiläinen for an initial consultation, at least. I am originally from the UK and I find the service I've been having under the Finnish National system very good. The fact that the doctors seem young to you is a matter of you aging. I hope all goes well with the pregnancy and delivery. If you're really unhappy I would suggest that you consider possibly relocation to your home country. Giving birth can be a stressful time for the mum and not being able to communicate 100% is an unwanted burden.

Public healthcare is !"#¤% in this country. Getting almost as bad as Sweden now.
If you're having a kid, you should at least be able to afford proper doctors (aka private). It's no different than getting a dog or cat, you don't unless you can afford semi-regular trips to the vet.

In any case, go private. No one will talk over you and you get treated like you would expect. Also I would not be taking any anti-biotics when pregnant. No matter if doctors say they are @#$% safe or not. That's !"#¤%.
