Living in Finland on small wages

Post by Tarita » Mon Jul 17, 2023 8:53 pm

Hello,

Can a young single person make ends meet on 10e/h, 30-36 hours?
We have a young person trying to make it on their own, and will need to also find an apartment once work has started.
That being said, I used the asumistuki calculator to see what they can receive, and it was about half or more for the rent assistance (rent estimated at 650e). Just wondering if anyone has any similar experiences, and helpful thoughts on this matter.

Thanks!

Where in Finland? Your rent estimate seems high for a lot of locations.

It would be in Uusimaa, so the price is on the low end, unless a roommate were to be found, and then it might be less.
Thanks for the reply.

At such rate, it looks eligible for Kela housing benefits: https://www.kela.fi/general-housing-all ... f-helsinki

Ordinary life is okay. But it's going to be tough in the beginning when he or she needs to buy a lot of small things for the new home.
