Hello everyone, I got married to my finnish spouse outside of Finland, and then we went to the Finnish embassy and filled the form of "Notification of marriage abroad" so our marriage can be certified in the DVV.
Here's the question, it takes quite some time for that to happen. Can I apply for my first Rp based on family ties now or do I have to wait till the marriage is certified in the DVV?
Noting that the marriage contract is certified in my country and from the Finnish embassy here.

You can. It's not among the listed requirements here. Migri checks the marriage certificate directly.Winchester1405 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 4:35 pmHello everyone, I got married to my finnish spouse outside of Finland, and then we went to the Finnish embassy and filled the form of "Notification of marriage abroad" so our marriage can be certified in the DVV.

Re: RP and Notification of Marriage Abroad
So the legalized marriage certificate that was issued by a notary public in my country (a non-EU) is sufficient for them while I apply for the RP? What you're saying makes sense. and also i have already applied for the RP and paid the fees but I still have yet to visit the embassy to identify myself. I'm considering delaying my embassy visit until the contract certification is done because I am a bit worried because some people say it needs to be certified in the DVV first and some people say it doesn't. What do you think?betelgeuse wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 8:19 pmYou can. It's not among the listed requirements here. Thank you for your help!jumlouhasa wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 10:31 amCongratulations on your marriage! In your situation, here's what you need to know about applying for a residence permit (RP) based on family ties in Finland. Residence Permit Application: You can typically apply for a residence permit based on family ties even if your marriage is still in the process of being officially certified by the DVV (Population Register Center) in Finland. The important factor is that you have valid documentation showing that your marriage is legally recognized and certified by the Finnish embassy and your home country.Winchester1405 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 4:35 pmHello everyone, I got married to my finnish spouse outside of Finland, and then we wentslope to the Finnish embassy and filled the form of "Notification of marriage abroad" so our marriage can be certified in the DVV.

The Finnish embassy is not needed with documents from an apostille issuing country.jumlouhasa wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 10:31 amThe important factor is that you have valid documentation showing that your marriage is legally recognized and certified by the Finnish embassy and your home country.
