Hello, I am currently residing in Latvia but I am not a EU citizen. However I have a work permit visa. I am writing to seek assistance regarding a sensitive and urgent matter related to the welfare of my unborn child and my rights as the father.
My ex-girlfriend, who is a Finnish citizen residing in Finland, is currently pregnant with our child. Despite my earnest efforts to be involved in the child's life and to provide support, she has made it clear that she does not want me to be a part of the baby's life. I am deeply concerned about this situation and wish to ensure that my rights as a father are recognized and that I can contribute positively to my child's upbringing.

”You can also acknowledge your paternity with the child welfare officer after the child has been born. The child welfare officer will determine paternity, after which we will confirm it. ”yothiba wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 8:13 amMy ex-girlfriend, who is a Finnish citizen residing in Finland, is currently pregnant with our child. Assuming you become a guardian in the population register, you will become entitled to a family residence permit.

After that you will have to figure out (probably via court) your shared custody arrangements.

Are there any specific steps or paperwork required before confirming paternity with child welfare officials in Finland, especially as a non-EU citizen?betelgeuse wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 9:09 pm”You can also acknowledge your paternity with the child welfare officer after the child has been born.
