Over 7 weeks and no update at all. I was really hoping that she would be able to come here for christmas as I have 2 weeks off from work and can spend that time with her but with every passing day the chances for that happening goes lower. Still not losing hope :)
Don't lose hope! There's still plenty of time for it to happen :) you should be receiving an answer soon. And trust me it doesn't take much time for the process to be done once you get to that "Now in process" stage. I really hope you'll spend Christmas with her. :D
Thanks. I am hoping that there will be some kind of an update until the end of this month, so basically just one week from now, so I can let my company know about the weeks I want to take off for december. It's cutting close but it's okay. Whatever happens, happens :)

I received an email informing me that I am able to go pick up my card tomorrow from the embassy :) so that's approximately 12 days after decision.
I'm happy to hear that. Congratulations! Are you planning to come to finland right away? If so, you might need to get prepared for much colder weather as winter is right around the corner.
Unfortunately not, I will come in late January (Yes I know. Cold. Don't know what to fully expect yet but I am ready :D ) and stay for 3 months then I will unfortunately have to leave temporarily for 5 months.
Yeah, but at the same time it's best to experience Finland in the fullest and being here in the middle of the cold and white winter is how you do that. Just remember layers on top of layers to keep warm. Also, I'm sure you are aware that the more you spend time in Finland for the first year, the better it is for the applying the extended residence permit. Whatever the case, I hope you enjoy your time here :)

Hello.
My diary number is 45???/1??/2024
But it never changes
Does this change in the second stage of the application or does my diary number always remain the same?

So. A little update to my wife's application. Like previously mentioned she went to the embassy 01.10 so it has now been 2.5 months. I was really hoping to get her here before christmas but that doesn't seem like it would happen. There were some issues with the application but what's most frustrating about this is that it was not mine or my wife's fault in any way. We have actually helped the process with lots of efforts. I will go into detail because I hope that it can help other people who might face some issues. First, I'm a finnish citizen and my wife is Moroccoan.

So for 2 months I didn't send 1 message or email to migri which is unusual for me because I always want to make sure that things are happening. I just trusted that the process is running and there was no benefit of stressing about it or questioning it. So just about 2 months of no response whatsoever I sent them an email and to our big surprise they were asking me to bring the original marriage certificate to migri. Which is opposite what the finnish consulate and migri in multiple different discussions before the application said, claiming that they DO NOT need to see the document physically and it's enough to just scan it and send it to enter finland. This made us little worried but also upset about the fact that they didn't told us anything about it until WE asked them. I wonder if I had waited couple of more weeks or months to send that message would they have said anything even then. But yeah, I gave them the document an hour after I found out they need it but even then they didn't specifically say what the issue is (which would have helped).

Affter couple of days I suddenly thought to look at the marriage contract again and saw that in the apostille of the marriage contract and the translation were qr codes, which said something like: "scan here to verify the apostille". I did for both of them and it brought me to a page which said that they cannot find any documents with that link. So, the link was broken. Well, I sent email to the same court who did the apostille for the documents and my wife called them but no response, so she deciced to visit them. They knew immediately what the issue is over there and said it's quite common and they will fix it soon, they did it the same day. Seems like they thought this was just a small thing and don't realize or care how it can affect peoples life. Well, the important thing is that it's now fixed right? That was the problem and now the document can be authenticated.

For the last 2 weeks I completly changed my mindset about letting migri to just do their job and I called and sent them emails every other day to find out what's going on but they "weren't able to comment on individual cases". Just made sure that they will contact me if they have questions (well that wasn't true in the first case). After a while of them not giving me any specific details I just gave up and thought that I just need some patience and things will happen when they happen. Before that I had booked an appointment with migri that I was planning to cancel, but then I just thought that this would be the last thing I would do. I'm really happy that I did, as in this appointment they told me that there is suspicion regarding the authenticity of the marriage contract. I didn't know what I could say. We made sure to go to the official route, do all of the things needed to get married (which has been made really difficult in Morocco unfortunately), and tell the truth in every part of the process, you know, what you are supposed to do. So I made sure to understand why do they say that. They said, our marriage contract is the size of A4 which is unusual for Moroccoan document. The other reason was that according to them the stamp is not a real one but it's laser printed. Also they were questioning me about the translation hinting that it might be Google Translation.

I have found out that there might be differences to sizes of marriage contracts in different cities and courts but A4 is not abnormal or unusual. Her sister got married more than 2 years ago and not only is the size the same, the format and the stamps and signatures are all very similiar.

Also regarding the stamp. We got this contract DIRECTLY from the court. If they have issues with the document (stamps and signatures of the legal courts) or the internationally recognised apostille it's the problem between Finnish goverment and the Moroccoan goverment right?

The translation is one of most professionaly made translations I have seen and every detail has been carefully looked at made sure it's correct.

They said that the application has now been taken away from the queue and the investigator would respond in couple of days. I asked if there is anything I can do to help, give them pictures, conversations I had with lawyers, translators, my wife or give them the timeline of my trip. Once again they said they will ask for it if they need it. But for this whole weekend I drafted a document which tells exactly every day of the trip and part of the process when I went there to get married. From the start to the very day my wife went to identify in the Finnish consulate. I also added pictures of the travel and the weeding. I hope that they respond next week.

The point of this was to tell you all that even when you have done every step correctly it still can be that there is issues so please make sure that do whatever you can to see that your documents are verifiably authentic. Especially for people dealing with Morocco, check to see if the Apostilles work. I hope that all of your or your spouses application gets accepted soon and the process to be smoother than ours.

Your lengthy post is very informative and a cautionary tale for all of us. When it comes down to it, you are your best advocate, not the system.

I wish you and your wife all the best!

Especially for people dealing with Morocco, check to see if the Apostilles work. I hope that all of your or your spouses application gets accepted soon and the process to be smoother than ours.
Hello,

I checked the apostles and thanks god its working.
And about the mariage we did it in Finland so already enregistred .

For my case ours two passports
Family ties doc for my spouse

I have big experiences in sales and team management (about 14 years : they need this information also?
I hope you will get the answers soon and I wish all the happiness for you.
Hi. I'm sorry to make you worried, that was not my intention. I'm sure that my situation is extraordinary and usually it won't have these issues. Especially if the apostille works like it should as it does in your case. And if you got married in Finland then there will be no questions regarding the authenticity of the marriage contract. I've pretty much added the same documents ass you did for the application (Before I had to add more regarding this issue):

My Passport
Her Passport
Family ties document
Application form
Marriage contract
+
Proof of divorce of my previous marriage (about 2 years ago).

I don't think you should add any other documents to it as they will not need them and it could possibly make the application more complicated. I hope that you get your answer soon.

For me, I don't know what I should do now. I believe wholeheartedly that everything is written and we need to have patience and be able to see the beauty in that. But at the same time there are things assigned for us to do and it has been difficult for me to differentiate betweeen those 2 things. I know there is a golden balance and I'm trying my hardest to reach that. But I've taken more effort for my self now that I've seen that without pushing for result migri might not be able or willing to move forward. They were supposed to answer me last week but they didn't. I went to another appointement and in that they said that investigating this contract takes a longer time and becuase of christmas it could move to next year. It's been almost a month and it's a very simple marriage contract.

I gave them 3 documents to look at
Copy of the marriage contract that's in the possession of my wife
Copy of her sisters marriage contract

I hope we get the answer soon.

Hello,

i want to ask you a question regarding your experience. I have applied for residence permit for a spouse of finnish citizen just like your wife. i applied on 11 October and still waiting for processing. So there are almost 10 days between us i guess.

But my question is how did you get appointment from migri and how they accepted to give you information about application?

I sent 2 emails and they didn’t even respond and my wife called them once and they gave only FAQ style answers. We also want to know if everything is fine with papers but we couldn’t get any contact.

Thank you in advance!
