Hello everyone,

It is my time to share the good news. Here is some information:
- Applied and identified myself on 13.06.2022
- Application moved to stage 2 on 14.01.2025
- Positive decision on 14.01.2025 after 1.5 hrs with no additional requests has been made. So it took 31 month and 1 day. My application was up-to-date. Like I renewed my home country passport and did some travelling in between, so I kept my application updated. So they didn’t ask for any additional documents during the processing.

Some background information:
- I came to Finland in 2017 as a student, so I had B residence permit, did some part time jobs until I graduated and then switched to A “work-based permit” after graduation.

- Applied for the permanent residence permit in 2024 and got it on the following day. The officer told me that it would take 9-13 months, but I got it on the following day.

- I am not a refugee, with all respect to fellow refugees. No criminal record, nothing at all. So I decided to take a break from the forum and read in silence because some folks used to question a lot or accuse me of having something hidden. It was mentally draining.

Overall, I have no idea why migri placed me in the longest queue. And it was frustrating everytime they prolonged the waiting time. I messaged them back in 2023 and they told that my application will take the longest processing time back then “I don’t remember”. So it did.

I messaged them again in November 2024, when it was 29 months since I applied, and they said that they will process it in a month. So I emailed them again in December 2024, and they promised again that it will be processed in a month and apologised for the long waiting. But the Christmas and new year holidays have stretched the processing time. But now it came!

The long processing time is mentally exhausting, and terrible. I feel happy for the positive decision but also sad that I had to face this unreasonably long waiting time. I do understand how does it feel to wait for 31 months.

To all fellow 2022 applicants, please take care of your mental health, and I hope that everyone here gets a positive decision soon. This forum has helped me a lot in many ways, from being updated with the information to discussing the implementations of the new citizenship laws. Thanks for 2022 members who were chatting with me from time to time as well. I have been a senior member in this forum 😎

- Side note: if they tell you that your application will take x amount of time to be processed, believe them and forget about your application. This is what happened with me. I might be wrong too. As said, the process was mentally draining, but I was surrounded by good people and friends who always told me not to worry and calmed me down. I am grateful for them!

To everyone waiting, please live your life and try to forget about your application. I fully understand the stress and everything associated with waiting, and I wish the best for everyone here.

Thank you and God bless 🙏
Wow, this is very good news, and I sincerely congratulate you. Your patience has paid off. of course, it's all very nervous, but the main thing is the result. based on your result, I understand that I still have to wait at least 2 months. I submitted on August 13, 2022. Congratulations again.

Today I got the decision, after 9,5 months

EU citizen background, salaried status.
Applied on 24/03/24
Visit to Migri and diary number on 02/04/24, 28xx
I contacted Migri by email in November and they predicted a total of 9 months of waiting, so quite accurate.

My case could be an anecdotal evidence that EU citizens are in a slightly longer queue.

Best of luck to everyone!
Congratulations to you 👏

17.1.2025 at 07:29 a.m : The processing of your application has begun / käsittely on alkanut !

08:20 : Hakemuksesi on tehty päätös. The decision arrived 50 minutes after start of processing !

Thank you to everyone for sharing their journey here and your helpful tips. I wish everyone who is waiting for their decision to recieve good news soon.

When I contacted migri few months ago, they informed me that it could take 9-10 months and they were pretty accurate. In total, it took 9 months and 15 days from the diary number creation date.

Hi
Congratulations to everyone that received positive decision this week and hopefully I share my good news soon.
I moved to Finland 2020 I have not had any reasons to email or call Migri because all my residency permit applications had been so easy, 1st permit decision it took a month, 2nd permit 2 days and permanent in 2 hours but now my citizenship application is still waiting for processing since July, I think I need to email them or call to ask for the estimated time for my application, I planned to travel to the US for holiday with my husband and we have be putting that plan on hold waiting for my Finnish passport, if the waiting time will take longer then I have to apply for US visa.

Please can someone send me the Migri right email or phone number to ask the “ how long should I wait Sir/Ma “ question 😁 and what do I have to write to get a nice response from them. Kiitos

The problem lies on your residency. You said you came to Finland in 2017 with B permit, and you applied for citizenship in 2022, so I do not think the residency time is enough when you submit the application and that is why you were put in the longest queue.

because 2B is counted as 1A. and a person needs to have 4A at least to apply for citizenship. From 2017 to 2022, it is only 5 years and you said you got permit with B study in the beginning and that is why.

It is reasonable. But I am happy for you that you did not get rejected in the beginning and happy that you got the positive for now. but yes, it sounds making sense for me.
No you still can apply if you have 2B and 3A which sum up to 4A. This is how I applied and received my citizenship in 6 months. I even applied 3 months before completing 4A(2B+3A) residence period.

Just seen this on facebook. Last sentence clatifies why enterpreneus are in a long queue

"I am also confused. During my permanent residence permit decision process, it was very fast, even as an entrepreneur. I think Oy shareholders receive salaries just like other employed people. I am a job holder and a part-time entrepreneur, but now I regret mentioning my business. I could have only mentioned my job instead. For Migri, it’s really unfair to treat entrepreneurs like this. In the future, people might be demotivated to get involved in business if it takes such a long time. Today, I called Migri, and they admitted that applications with an entrepreneurial background have the longest waiting time—up to 31 months—because not every employee understands business documents; it requires specialized expertise."

By the way I dont communicate on fb but if the person who posted this read this by chance - if you hide some info from migri that would be bad idea, they might revoke citezenship, so you did it right that you told them that you involved in Oy

Hi everyone,
I read all the posts and I am shocked about how long it takes to obtain the citizenship.

Here I was hoping to obtain it in two or three months.

A bit about my case:

Came to Finland in 2010 on a family ties residency permit.
Studied in Finland for my Bachelor and Master’s.
Worked in Finland for most of the time and have been unemployed also.
Have a two kids and still married with wife.

I applied for the Finnish citizenship in January 3, 2025. So! Based on the past entry I assume it will take me several to years to obtain the citizenship. Well! It is quite long. But understandable, because I have been in security clearance for work and the wait then was long. SUPO takes their time. I received the message that my application is waiting for processing on the Monday after submitting my application. But, nothing changed since.

I will not look it anymore, because it is too driving me crazy.
