To think, if they'd only bought him a year or two earlier, they could have got some joy out of Litmanen and given us some joy in watching them. Still, with all those long balls forward through the air, at least people standing outside Anfield can get to see something now and then.
You a liverpool fan WLM? I've been waiting for such a fellow to show up 8)

Hiya lads

New kid here. Just got tipped off about a footy thread by Olly.

I'm Man City meself. Used to go every match in the 70's till women came into the equation. Now I'm 41 and got 2 kids so football, even from this distance, is about the only excitement I get anymore..

So have you been back recently and seen your new Stadium Matty? My mum lives in Denton now and I was back there this summer and had a look. It was still being built when I lived in Manc but almost finished.

No mate. No cash for that every week. next time I'm going home is for the derby next year. Mate of mine in New York goes back for nearly every game! Madman. he's earning wedges as some investment banker or summat.

Denton hey? I must say that I don't know anything round that way at all. Hyde or Ashton. Do they speak English round there?

I'm gonna miss Maine Rd though. What a dump but what a dump! me old man was a red btw. First game I ever went to was Utd v Arsenal in about 1968. he used to drag me to the swamp many a time. Bestgames I saw were around 77 when Docherty put that team together. Also saw Johan Cryff's testemonial at OT which was sensational.

Not even close  It looks alright that stadium BTW. I actually backed City for a top 6 finish this season I've got Sun Jihai and Wright-Phillips in my fantasy team. Like Simon (the Charlton fan) was saying. Your defence is a bit suspect at times and your prone to inconsistency. I think Keegan may do it for you though, I watched him do it with Newcastle :!:

The defence was shïte cos he played 3-5-2 for most of the season which was suicide. Now he seen the light and we're 4-4-2 we're in business. Plus he's brought in Sinclair, Tarnat, Bosveldt, Sibierski and dear old David Seaman. He's also about to get either Mellbjerg from Villa or Mills from Leeds at right back, so the gossip goes.

I hope so as I only had an extra 6 million. Nistelrooy and Scholes cost me a packet  So I had to put my faith in Keegan. Wright-Phillips 3.1m and Sun Jihai 2.9m

Taking the piss Olly? yep, those guys did great on EURO 2000 (well sort of..) and them decided they would be the next world champions. They didn't really pay attention when Finland let them down 1-4. Got full of themselves and looked down at the US.. this and other bizarre stories.

Same happened with this 17s. Got the euro-title, at home and suddenly their names were all over the papers (3 daily sports=football papers). One of them even signed off from his team( sporting lisbon).. Luckily Yemen was not really that good.

As for them being tired, it has been on the papers. And it was quite noticable on the game with Brazil as well. Hopefully they'll improve their condition and beat nuestros hermanos on the "local derby", HS dixit..

Btw, did you see the first one against Kamerum? What a goal :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

LoL  Despite their current world ranking of 9th best in the world. Apparently above England, Czech Republic, Italy, Portugal and Sweden ( :?: Mitä :?:  ).

Its definitely still a bit of a disgrace for the aforementioned countries to lose to the USA. I reckon Sven-Goran Eriksson would be job hunting if England lost to the USA in a knockout round of the World Cup. Although a group defeat might be accepted if England still progressed to the next round.

Of course losing to the USA doesn't put the England manager under as much pressure as losing to Germany

Im convinced of it, slowly but surely they're catching up. The senior team looked all right in the last world cup too. They played some nice football. And acheived a quarter final place (same as England). And how about these moments:

Well I must disagree with this.

I dont think the old ceptic tanks will be any good for a long while yet if at all. I just dont think the enthusiasm is there at least for mens football, I know the women are No.1 in the worldhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/3074153.stm but the mens game is still developing. Their wins in the world cup were well achived but I didnt really think that the teams they played against played that well. Regarding that they got to the 1/4 finals well Germany got to the final and they had a sh1te team  No offence to our German friends.

Olly what Fantasy league do you play? Im in the OFL with a group of old work mates back in blighty in a super league. Maybe next season we can start up a IESA league????

From what I saw on the TV the new 'Main Road' looks the business is it bigger than main road?
Still not sure that Citys defence will be any good though Keegans teams has always let in goals his theory is score more goals than the other team but still rekon maybe a top 10 finish.

Wolves this weekend
3-1 Charlton win Di canio makes an outstanding debut scoring 1 and setting up the other two for Parker and Euell...COME ON Parker I need some points

CITY -Portsmouth going for a 2-1 city win
Newcastle-Scum Utd  well shearer is going to prove whose the daddy to RVN scoring to win the game 3-2

What do you think Olly

Yeah remember who was in their group:

1. Germany
2. Ireland Rep.
3. Cameroon
4. Saudi Arabia

compared to Englands "group of death":

1. Sweden
2. England
3. Argentina
4. Nigeria

then they had Paraguay, USA and Korea whilst we played Denmark and Brazil. They didn't meet any real opposition until the final, the lucky so and so's

For real :!: I do the BBC one. Heres my team (50m limit, max 2 players from each team) I wanted Henry, Shearer, or Owen or someone to Partner RVN unfortunately I couldn't leave Scholes out so had to opt for a sub standard striker hence Bellamy  Im gambling on City and Newcastle pulling off a top 6 finish, im banking on UTD Chelsea Loonypool and Arsenal getting one  Cisse's just there as a widcard (and I was skint  )

Cudicini 3.7m
Lauren 3.8m
Sun Jihai 2.9m
Hyypia 4.3m
Woodgate 3.5m
Cisse 2.8m
Scholes 5.3m
Veron 3.8m
Wright-Phillips 3.1m
Bellamy 7.3m
van Nistelrooy 9.5m

You can have a look round it on this site :!: As you can see in the traditions of Man City they have a Gene Kelly stand with no roof  (I think they still have to build it :!: )

The City of Manchester Stadium: 48,000 (or its 38,000 and they still need to put some seats in or something :?: ) Maine Road: 33,100

I reckon you'll beat Wolves, City should beat Portsmouth. I'll be happy with a draw at St James's

You can have subs in this one as you can see but same rules apply. I think the BBC prices are a little lower and in the OFL you have to pick 15 players.

A Barness picked him as I played in the same team as him when we were young. Hes a Charlton old boy

Interesting the first post I read on there:
Looking at the Telegraph statistics (in the Wednesday TFF article), it appears that a huge proportion of people choose both Henry and RVN.

Does anyone know if this tactic (ploughing about 50% of your money into the Strikers) has worked in the past?

Have you chosen Henry and RVN, to the detriment of the rest of your team?
I went through that dilemma myself, it seems you've bought them both, It will be interesting to see if that tactics works this season.

This guy made a good point about it though
I also have both - can't afford not to, I reckon.

I might downgrade one of them later on when it becomes clear which cheaper strikers are in good form.

I am almost hoping that one of them gets injured to make things a bit easier.
