@ is a lovely word in Finnish - 'miukumauku' i think also sometimes shortened to'miumau' (like the noise a finnish cat makes)

You can just say 'at' and usually people who know what email is will also know what symbol you mean :-) The real name for it is "taksamerkki", referring to the symbol's original use in marking a price.

Thanks!!! Jason, I've seen that word before and I'm pretty sure that's the one I want. AJK, are you sure you spelled the Finnish word correctly? Taksamerkki translates to back mark as opposed to Maksamerkki which translates to cost mark. :?

Yes, I'm sure :-) Look up "taksa" somewhere, it means fee or price. "Maksa" instead means liver... Or you can Google "taksamerkki", it will prolly find some FAQ type explanations for it. Of course the various miumau versions are just as fine :-)

It's proper name in Finnish is the 'ät-merkki' or 'ät' for short. 'Taksamerkki' is a translation of the sign's original meaning in English which is 'commercial at'. The 'commercial at' symbol isn't used in Finland in commerce.
