Palindromes and long finnish words :)
Palindromes and long finnish words :)
I know the longest palindrome of the world is finnish: saippuakivikauppias. I like to know more finnish palindromes, or long funny words , like that. So if you know one, you are welcome!

Have you been introduced to 'Ollin Kurjuus' yet?

I mean the 'sananmuunnoksia'.
You switch the syllables and the end result is something rude... you just need to know the pairs.
entinen Sylvi - syntinen Elvi
raha liikkui - liha raakkui
(those are bout the only printable ones...)

My favorite looooooong Finnish words
Käyttäjäystävällinen = user friendly (note how non-user friendly this word is!)
Pikkukaupunkilainen = small-town person
Vieraspaikkakuntalainen = out-of-towner
Maailmankatsomuksellinen or elämänkatsomuskellinen = philosophical (and you thought it was long in english!)
Työehtosopimusneuvottelut = collective bargaining

Well, they may be nothing special to you since you are a native born Finn ... and therefore were born with approx. 17 trillion more braincells than the average American. I see words like those and I tremble. It takes me at least 5 minutes to build up the courage to try to say one of those. And, much like an inexperienced water skiier ... I start off strong, but in the middle of the word I lose hold of the rope and gradually sink until I drown ... giving up on life completely. And my husband laughs.Hank W. wrote:Which are good examples as they are in "daily use in the newspaper" and not any obtuse coinings just for the sake of it...
I'm dyslexic, and I'm mad ... D. A. M.!
Thanx all
I've found what the longest word is in finnish:
epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydellänsäkään . The meaning is: epa- (non-, un-, ir-) jarjestelma (""system"") -llis- (the postfix for ""systematic-"") -tamatto- (""not"") -myydellaansa- (""with"" in the singular 3rd person) -kaan (""also"") -kohan (a postfix indicating doubt).
And i also found some other palindromes:
Saippuakalasalakauppias, (= illicit soap-fish trader)
Saippuakuppinippukauppias (=soap cup dealer)
Solutomaattimittaamotulos (=the result from a measurement laboratory for tomato)
Innostunut sonni (= an excited bull)
So, i have found a lot now! . But if you know more, you are always welcome!!
