What a load of old Sh|te. Did the Finns realise they were playing in a semi final. 3rd period pp to finland and can only manage one half shot on goal.... Russia killed 3 excellent goals. Fair play to the ruskies

What a disappointment, thought Suomi would put up a better fight.

Darn darn darn it all.

WTF is going on with two penalties in the 3rd period for too many men on the ice! And not the 'caught by the bench' variety; rather, six full blown skaters out there, none the wiser. Perkele. Thoroughly forgettable performance by Ollie J. in this tournament. He had a solid season for the Panthers in the NHL, but was M.I.A. for much of this competition.

Russia played a near-perfect defensive game. I cannot recall a single odd-man rush into the zone by Finland. And a minimal number of turnovers in Russia's own zone. Tip-of-the-hat to their solid defensive play; we all knew they had the offensive firepower, but I didn't think they had it in them to do that in the defensive end.

2-0 after 16 mins. A lot better from the Leijonat. At least they look organised and seem to have a clue this time.

What's the motivating factor here, though - beating the Svedut or a winning bronze?

I think it was a concerted effort to make Stefan Liv (ouch!) the sport and take up golf - 12 SOG, 9 SVS... and the guy down the other end is a wall.

That's gotta hurt.

"Liv and let die" :P

Finland-Sweden 4-0 8) Correct me if I'm wrong but beating the Swedes was as good as winning the gold medal.

I have gone back and watched on-line replays of some of the games that I missed.

I was particularly interested in the Finland-Latvia match where the shots were 61-20 (something like that) and 36-5 in the first period.

In the first period I burst out laughing at the American (I think) play-by-play announcer. Latvia was two men short, and then was whistled for another penalty. The announcer got all excited and shouts, "wow, we are now going to see a 5 on 2 power play! We have seen plenty of 5-3 power plays in the tournament, but this will be our first opportunity to see a 5 on 2 power play!!" :?

Even after the sides lined up and it clearly was still a 5 on 3, this guy was confused and nobody clued him in. On live TV, he is trying to sort out why it is not 5 on 2. "Hmmm, apparently they are going to stay 5 on 3, but it is not clear why" he says. :?

(Note: for those of you who might not know all the rules of hockey; one team cannot ever go less than 3 skaters + goaltender on the ice. Additional penalty time is stacked up, not additional players taken off the ice.)

I did wonder myself even though i have watched plenty of ice hockey i'm short on rules that you don't get to see very often. It became quite clear of course what was happening, i'm surprised he didn't know the rule or even pick up on it earlier! I bet he's taking abit of stick from his work mates! :D

Was this game any better the second time around? loads of power plays and shots but short on quality, i thought.

As mentioned before, the World's are often thought of a "B" class tournament because the best players are in the best teams in the NHL playoffs. However after watching the gold final, I wonder how Team Russia would fare against this years Stanley Cup Champions? The talent pool of hockey has flourished in the last while and I don't know, the quality of some of the games in this tournament surely can be judged as some of the best in the world.
Congratulations to Team Russia! Great game! Great series!
