It was more effective than the Chicago cops at the 1968 Democratic Party Convention and it caused fewer injuries.

:D Yeah...Well, I guess they got smart...no point creating a "political incident" if you don't have to... Though I hope they didn't lose too many votes because of it.... Well, unless it was a Republican Convention, that is....

It was a computer convention.

Do you suppose a boring bagel thread can reach 50 pages?
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

We can only hope... tuulen sold me long ago on the exquisite pleasures of bagels and lox.... Maybe this image will help his cause in Finland....(and maybe help get this thread to 50 pages):

RobA, I have never doubted that bagels with lox would taste good... it's just that I already have my favourite ways and combinations to enjoy lox - these involve rye bread for example 8) This of course won't stop anyone shoving bagels, those unique carriers of true civilisation, into this thread in dozens of more increasingly futile attempts to make Helsinki the bagel capital of the world...

Anyway, to be honest, there's too much fish in that thing  Then again, moderation never seemed to be among the virtues across the pond :)

Clarinets are more than ok as part of the orchestra, but in smaller ensembles... I don't know what it is, it just does not appeal to me that much.

There's an interesting recording available however, of Bartók's "Contrasts" - with the composer himself at the piano, Joseph Szigeti on the violin and Benny Goodman on clarinet. This has been on my "recordings to have" list for a while already, but haven't got round to purchasing it.

What is this "moderation" of which people prattle?

The only measure of chili is how hot.

The only measure of bazongas is how big.

The only measure of music is how loud.

The only measure of anything not otherwise specified is, again, how big. And if it ain't the world's biggest, it's probably somewhere else. Like Finland.

After all this time, that one is still special. And I'm not even particularly fond of the genre. But anyone who does something really, really well is worth listening to.

So what are your favorite Klezmer clips? With bagels of course.

Agreed 100%. One does not have to like something personally to be able to appreciate its inherent value.

Well...I'm no expert on klezmer music...I typically don't know the names of the pieces though I recognize some of them when I hear them.... But I'll dig around and see if I can come up with a few of the pieces....If anything that should help us keep this "wonderful" thread going for a while longer... And that would be a GOOD THING...Oi Vey!!...

To start here's an interesting piece from a Hungarian klezmer group....

You are in luck!

Bagels can be made of rye, too.
