The "bad" press will force migri to tighten up their systems.riku2 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 11:46 amThe data scraping and subsequent removal of queue information from Kamu made the local press https://www.hs.fi/suomi/art-2000010522365.html

The new citizenship law has been approved by the parliament today.
They have finished the accumlative time for citizenship.
Can anyone please guide how will interuption work under new laws.
As per my understanding, if you are out of Finland for 5 years, then it would mean interruption...
Please guide.

Looks like the biggest change is the allowed travel. Pretty sure many will still apply but get negative decision because of the less travel allowed. So hopefully people will read the new rules carefully before sending their application.Uskomaton wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 4:38 pmhttps://www.eduskunta.fi/FI/vaski/Edusk ... +2024.aspx

Also before anyone asks, be truthful about travel report. Finns value honesty and it’s not ideal if they find out you lied about your travels.

The new rules are generally more relaxed about travel. The framework is different to the current one so individual outcomes depend on individual circumstances.quillcentaur wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 3:16 pmLooks like the biggest change is the allowed travel. The new rule is simpler than the old one but not essentially more relaxed. For people whose hobby is travelling, the new rule is more strict than the old one.betelgeuse wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 5:06 pmThe new rules are generally more relaxed about travel. In the old rule you can travel here and there as long as you don’t exceed the rules (e.g., trips that don’t last more than a month) . In addition to that there’s even maximum 6 periods of 2 month travel, so that’s already max 12 months total + maximum two times of 6 month travel = so you get about 2 years of travel in total + the little travels that last less than a month. And that’s for *4 years type A residency before citizenship.
New rule: only 365 days of travel for the whole *5 years (Also just for quick reference for others: it’s 90 days max travel for the latest year just before you’re applying the citizenship)
Sucks for those who are backpacking/travelling a lot since they didn’t know this would be the case and they probably travelled in the past based on the knowledge that they were not violating residency rules for citizenship. But oh well! I guess it could be worse.
TL;DR: You can travel more under the old rule without it affecting the counting of residency towards citizenship
(Note that I’m just sharing what I think. This doesn’t affect me fortunately!)

Here’s the full text of the new rule:quillcentaur wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 5:57 pm

Yli viiden vuoden yhtäjaksoinen oleskelu Suomen ulkopuolella katkaisee asumisajan laskemisen. Asumisajan laskeminen alkaa tällöin uudelleen 14 §:n 1 momentin mukaisesti.”
If you travel in total for, for example, 400 days, it just means a 35 day delay to accumulating the five years of residence.
