Re: Citizenship Application 2023
I submitted my application earlier this week but I haven’t gotten a diary number yet. Is this normal? It also says that I don’t need to visit a service point because they all have the documents they need.
Update: Got the diary number six days after.

Re: Citizenship Application 2023
Nobody knows exactly their reasons, from my point of view my case is as clear as a glass of still water. And yes, I visited migri point two months before my full 4-years residence period, as many others did.
Re: Citizenship Application 2023
The 4 years / 5 years rule shows how badly written the migri website is.Did you apply before completing the 4-year residency permit requirement?
It says on the main page that you need language skills + 5 years residence to apply for citizenship, but on another page it says that there are lower time limits for some people - and passing the language test is one of those special cases that lower the time to 4 years .. but according to the main page everyone must pass the language test .. so it's not 5 years at all but 4 years (once you dig through several pages of finer detail)

You are partially correct, but at the same time, they would like to see that you have strong ties with Finland. It could be that you are permanently living here, got married here, gave birth to a child here, have a business, a permanent job, or own real estate (a house/apartment), etc.
Re: Citizenship Application 2023
I’ve decided to complain about the situation with the processing times of my application to the Oikeuskansleri. I have described them my situation, so let’s see what answer I am going to receive

Re: Citizenship Application 2023
Hi, I have been following this thread for so long so now I want to contribute some to this.
Application submitted date: 23/06/2023
Migri appointment: 14/07/2023
Service point: Lappeenranta
I received an email says that my application was processed on 11/12/2023 and after about 20 mins, I got the decision
My background: Asian citizenship, came here to study bachelor's, graduated and worked for 2 years as a developer, never asked for any benefit from Kela
Thank you everyone for your contribution and wish you would get your decision soon.

Re: Citizenship Application 2023
Hello everyone, I have the following situation:
I am a non-EU citizen living in Finland and I have applied for Finnish citizenship (all the requirements are met in my case). I also added my 1-year old child to the application. He was born in Finland, but both parents are non-EU citizens (both on type A RPs), he has the same citizenship as we, his parents, have, all documents are ok. He also has a type A residence permit based on family ties.
When I went to prove my identity in Migri with my child, the lady there told me that my application is fine and all good but my child cannot get the citizenship because the residence time requirement is not met for him. And she didn’t even check his passport, we just proceeded with my application and otherwise all went well. For my child’s citizenship she said to come back in 3 years… Isn’t it so that when the child is less than 15 years old, both the residence time requirement and the language requirement are waived when he is a co-applicant, and the child only needs to be permanently resident in Finland on the time of the decision?
Any thoughts on this? What legislation was the Migri officer referring to? Any advice how to proceed with this?

Re: Citizenship Application 2023
For how long have you been waiting since you visited migri if I may ask?
Re: Citizenship Application 2023
This is my 16th month. Even though I know that I haven’t waited as long as other people, I still think it is reasonable to file a complaint. Also because if I wait until I get my decision, then I won’t necessarily have any motivation to complain, as I will be already quite happy
