Need advice on residence permit renewal

OK. So, today I got curious and called the Immigration Police up to ask about how the application is going after handing over my passport last Friday. The lady who answered the phone told me that it's ready.

I went to pick it up this afternoon and yes, Hank W. (and Daryl too ) is spot on - I got a Type A valid for one year. The guy who gave me back my passport said that the next time I should request for a 3 year's extension.

Will start the process again in 6 months' time .

So after you get the 3-years extention the "system" more or less then gives you the next one after that without an end date, as a 'permanent'.
