What a strange comment!? The operating words above are "quality slide film", not so much what camera and when it was made (well, the lenses do matter). And why on earth would Xochi need the sales guy to explain digital camera pixels vs. film grain to her, I'm pretty sure she already knows about this (since I know, and my skills in photographing is on the level "point & shoot & get a blurry picture).

I have to say that I really like professionals using digital cameras. Ok, I have only taken passport photos, but since I could check them before they printed, I have actually gotten some decent ones (one was even really great!).

Not for Onegammyleg, it's not.

Nice to see you posting pics again, Xochi. The board was rather grey
while you were gone :D

Yeah, his posts are pretty pointless (read: trollish).

It's good to be back - 1 day now so jetlagged to all hell (and with an unhappy 3 year old in tow) :) I haven't stepped foot outside of the cold house yet - too depressing after lounging at a beach for 3 weeks :)

I have to say that I really like professionals using digital cameras. Ok,
I have NEVER - EVER heard of a salesman say that their new top of the line digital camera has a lower resolving power than a 35mm camera and the majority of the public do not know this.

They also do not know that digitals do not reproduce colors as accurately as film does.,
In fact they are limited to the number of different colors and shades they can make., unlike film that can make any combination of color and shade possible within the chemical formulation used.

Making this knowledge clear and well known would harm new camera sales.

I am the site owner of one for the most popular medium format camera sites on the web and I also write articles for US camera magazines ,, and I have worked as a professional photographer , so it may be just possible that I may know what professionals use., and for fine art , architectural , or landscape photography where the pictures will be enlarged , they still use medium format or bigger film cameras.

The only ¨pro's¨ that use digital are ones that are either going to do a lot of post processing (manipulation) on the computer (fashion) or need processing speed or convinient and fast data transfer of the images (press)

These are not QUALITY photographic applications , they are CONVENIENT photographic applications.

Even in many years when digitals exceed 60 megapixels they still wont be as good as the gear that I am using rite now.

PS .. take a picture of something really dark purple with a digital camera ,, most digital's cant make this color and it comes out as ROYAL BLUE.

Ahh yeah, I see! You are a "hifisti" (well, the photographer version). Should have said so straight away, your comment makes much more sense now!

(And yeah, I know about the better color reproduction. How many brownie points do I get?)

What else can I say when stupid people comment on technology!!
and when was a Digital camera worse than a 35mm???
Even a 1Mp is better than a 35mm.
Moreover, Xochi was talking about a DSLR, not a point N shoot!!
Disruptive technologies make life easier for normal people to do things easier, that experts were doing before.
If you apply this to Xochi who is IMHO a Professional photographer

I dunno why I need to explain things like this!!

Actually, camera technology questions can be (air)brushed aside here - I'd wager that dismissive comments like that can much more easily -and more accurately, as it happens- be explained by an atavistic human trait... in one word...

ENVY.

Keep up the good work, Xochi! Nice pics!

Actually Xochiquetzal , it is you that should have thought about what you said before coming and opening your sour mouth.
I have ties with the photographic industry here in Finland , and one of my associates has just closed a photographic show just a few weeks back.
I could have introduced you to a few key players and perhaps it would have opened some doors for you in this country to pursue something which you like.
Buy as I can see by your arrogant and abusive manner you are not willing to be criticized in any way , which makes you unable to learn.
Which is too bad , one guy I know (one of Finland's master photographers) probably would have mentored you for free.
But , never mind , enjoy your little club here that blows bubbles up your but when you post your happy snaps.

Doors of opportunity don't often open now days , often we only get one good chance to make a difference , but you have just slammed one shut - Well Done !

You talk boldly , almost as if you actually know what you are talking about.

If you , or anyone else believes that rubbish , you must all be on drugs.

I have seldom, if ever, been a real expert, let alone an authority on any issue. And definitely not on cameras! So suffice it to say that any further attempts of personal insult are futile, considering the additional fact that the power to insult me has unfortunately been reserved to my friends and other people who actually know me; so tish and pish to that!

As it happens, however, I was merely pointing out that envy is usually the main motivating factor behind such dismissive comments.

The most important two things to note, however, are these

1) Xochi (whom I do not even know actually) takes good quality pics, in my opinion, whatever the Intergalactic Pixel Inspection Authorities may say

...and, in relation to this...

2) merely having the most high-quality "tools of the trade" does not make anyone a good photographer. (Nor do ties with the industry, or association with master photographers, by the way.) Or, from a slightly different perspective, a technically good quality picture is not necessarily good picture, if you see what I mean.

But, could you show us some of your own pictures, please? This just out of curiosity, and out of interest - what can you achieve if you really have the best equipment. I'm a mere dabbler in photography meself, but if anyone wishes to have a look some of my photos can be found here

Was this link

http://photoinf.com/General/Wim_van_Vel ... 5groot.jpg

to a photo of yours, by the way?

Sammy, I'm going to blow some bubbles your way and say that I really enjoyed looking at your pictures. I think the winter ghosts series was my favorite.
