I noticed the grammar issues and thought it was possibly why you had to take the exam three times. If the way you write is the way you speak, it's going to be very difficult for you here.

I'm just sayin'...

Some of you might have misunderstood something from my previous posts as it was not that organised. I just want to say, the education of finland is better than malaysia whether its is kokkola or any other city but you will get good education. [[you know you just need to be hungry and a little bit mad to win your life, hungryness will give you interest and madness will give you motivation and strength( to sinikala :D ). ]]
Thank you all.
Ghufran, you don't know the first thing about Kokkola, that is clear.

I have underlined the part which is in my opinion, totally wrong.

- Is the average high school education in Finland of a high standard? Yes
- Are the best universities in Finland of a good international standard. Yes.
- Is the polytechnic in Kokkola amongst the best universities in Finland? No.
- Is the polytechnic in Kokkola any better than the best universities in Malaysia? Probably not.

I studied under a guy who used to be a lecturer at Science University of Malaysia in Penang, he's now head of department at a decent UK university. Kokkola is not in the same league.

As I said, good luck, you need it... at the very least you will get some experience of a different culture.

Sports and leisure activities
Beautiful ***** Finland is a haven for sports enthusiast thanks to its close proximity to the sea, rivers and lakes. Summertime sees many take to the water with many different kinds of water sports such as sailing, canoeing, fishing and swimming to try out. Additionally, this region boasts excellent golf courses, football, tennis, badminton, and volleyball facilities. Wintertime brings many opportunities for ice-skating and ice hockey, and many enjoy cross-country skiing. In mid-winter lakes and the sea freezes over, making for new adventures on skis, with many also enjoying ice swimming fishing.
Relaxing pastimes also abound in the region, among which is the Finnish passion for music and dancing. Many music festivals take place in open-air arenas and evenings of music and dance throughout summer are very popular. As the autumnal months set in, many Finns enjoy picking mushrooms and berries, as the leaves turn golden before the winter months.

Culture and traditions

Most assuredly, the sauna is an essential component in a Finn’s cultural make-up. With a long history, the sauna in Finland continues to be a part of everyday life and is considered as an important place to clean oneself, socialize with others, relax and rejuvenate. Taking a sauna during wintertime is also enjoyable when interspersed with quick dips in frozen lakes via a hole cut in the ice or rolling about in the snow.

Asides from that, everyone looks forward to the end of the summer season when the big party called the ******* festival takes place in ********. .

This could have been written about many towns in Finland, including Helsinki.

Have to agree with Fishy, having heard of this "captured British ship" in Kokkola, it was extremely dissappointing to realise it's just a rowing boat.

I'm sure you'll find some fun there gufran, even if it's only making bonfires.
Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I agree with ghufran about 'the education of finland is better than malaysia whether its is kokkola or any other city but you will get good education'. I'm a Malaysian, even studied at Science Univ of Malaysia before I left for Sweden, studied engineering in Sweden and soon in Helsinki. I must say that the education in Scandinavia (at least in Sweden) is much liberal than in Malaysia. We were treated like retard babies at the Science Univ. Let's see..if I remember it vividly (I know that I do esp in this case), I was forced to stay at campus for 2 weeks for the orientation when I only live 20 mins from the uni. We had to go everywhere in line (no it wasn't a nursery if you're wondering, it's called a UNIVERSITY) and it was compulsory to wear the purple scarf given by the school. Oh yeah the lecturers love to be addressed by their status esp the Malays (I know what you're thinking but I ain't a racist) so yeah we had to greet our lecturers by saying 'Good morning Doctor/Professor Blahblahblah'. Our dress codes (Oh yeah local unis do have that. Don't ask the international students..they don't know a thing about it) were loose jeans, loose n no see thru tops, no shorts, no skirts, no sleeveless tops when it was 35° degrees outside! I was once forbidden from entering the library few weeks before my exam because I had a short sleeves top. The guard thought i should go to the cinema instead of library. I told him I could cover my shoulders/arms with a scarf but he still refused to let me in. One of my lecturers even accused my friend and I for copying just because she borrowed my dictionary and threatened to report it to the dean. HAH! 'That's it..I quit' I said to myself. There are too many !"#¤% and pathetic rules esp at the local unis that made the whole study experience a nightmare. Will I continue my studies at any local unis in Msia? No Thank You!

You should try Germany then... Herr Doktor Doktor Professor Von Schmidt... and imagine if he decides to become diploma engineer on top of that: Herr Doktor Doktor Professor Diploma Engineer Von Schmidt.

LOL brilliant thread

Good luck Gufran. It will not be what you expected but you can probably turn it into all you dream of. And you probably won't have to wear a purple scarf if you don't want to. Welcome to Finland.

Actually, you only use the "highest" degree in Germany, so only Professor von Schmidt. To get a Professor titel in Germany, you anyway most of the time need a doctoral thesis plus their "Habilitation". Just nitpicking ;)
Here in Finland, I have done everything I can to blend-in with the Finns, I've changed my hair color, wore differnet clothes, got different

Well the source of my information is probably dead now, as Herr Doktor Doktor was over 70 when he was teaching us some courses in the -90s. Charming character... always dressed in three piece suite.
