Well, I'm an American and I think it's fine to be called a "Yankee". After all, we did in fact win the war and if we hadn't saved Texas, they would just be a large part of Mexico. (of course, we wouldn't have a certain president now either)  They always warned us that "the South will rise again". Maybe the Finns should start calling all of us "Kapinoitia" or "Pensakaita". :ochesey:

One of the origins of the term Yankee may well be the common Dutch name Jan-Kees

To foreigners, a Yankee is an American.
To Americans, a Yankee is a Northerner.
To Northerners, a Yankee is an Easterner.
To Easterners, a Yankee is a New Englander.
To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter.
And in Vermont, a Yankee is an outhouse.

Is that like a think tank for sceptics? I could totally see that because I'm a sceptic.

well,
My spelling is a joke, should be 'septic tank'

The post was a (miss spelled) statement of fact.

I am guessing that the phrase was meant to be enjoyed by those familiar with the cockney dialect. Neither as a joke or as an insult just part of the pub banter in London.

and its snowing again here in the boondocks

I don't think the Finn use the term in a negative way, but I personally don't really like being called or referred to as a 'jenkki'.
