They confirmed I cannot get a refund of these flights unless tytäreni was terminal.
I cannot change the name on her ticket; no-way no-how not going to happen.
I can retain the value of her ticket through next summer (2009) if I cancel her portion of the trip before our scheduled departure date in July, and rebook her on a new flight (of equal or greater value + pay the ticket-change-fee of $230) prior to October 30, 2008.
So this is the new plan; I will travel to northern Finland alone this summer, using my current ticket + nonrefundable cottage deposit. We will plan another father-daughter trip for the summer of 2009. She will have the UA/SAS airline ticket credit for that airfare, i.e. her ticket is already paid-for.
