I have to do loads of mileage with my job in the UK. I have a Peugeot 207 (only bought last year) but I'm seriously thinking of doing this:

Yes, it makes sense. This is commonly known as EGR valve (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exhaust_gas_recirculation), and it needs to be taken off the car and get cleaned from time to time (it is very sensitive, partially made of ceramics and if it brakes... you need another one, pretty expensive, so usually people do not clean it because of this - you can easily blame the mechanic for not handling it properly). Because of particles it gets to wear, this valve won't close completely at some point. Your delay in acceleration comes from this (too much burned gases in the combustion chamber), but you are still able to accelerate after a delay, because your ECU (engine control unit) gets the engine parameters and injects more fuel at some point. Expect your car to eat more fuel these days, and significantly less after the EGR valve gets changed. Normally this problem comes during some time, but it could be also from very poor quality diesel fuel.penelope wrote:I need a new exhaust sensor valve. I'm still waiting for the spare part but as it's a lease car I'm not too worried about the cost (I'm not paying). But just out of interest.... you mentioned poor quality diesel.... what is that??? As I mentioned higher up in the thread, my car started having acceleration problems after I filled up with bio-Diesel (I have confirmed that it was bio) for the first time. Is this just coincidence? Do the bio-fuels leave more gunk in the engine??? I thought they were supposed to be cleaner.

The biodiesel itself could not be the cause, according to my knowledge.

OK, good. Because I think all the Neste stations in S.Finland are distributing NExBTL since last week and that's where I fill up.

Searching the renault.com website, I have foundthis press release, which says that they have made special modifications to some of their dci engines to run on biofuel B30 (30% bio, 70% normal diesel). Also, I have read that generally biodiesel is a better solvent for rubber, and if it is not heated enough (low temperatures) this can result in incomplete combustion, which means particles wear.

NExBTL Renewable Diesel is a pure hydrocarbon and a second-generation biodiesel. A maximum of 5% FAME can be blended with conventional diesel, because of its poor relative quality and limited performance properties.
The aim is for around half of the buses in the region to be running on NExBTL by 2010.
The trial has started with 60 buses running on a 25/75% NExBTL-fossil diesel blend; and the intention is to switch to 100% NExBTL in spring 2008.

98 is 1.4990 € a litre and I guess 95 is a bit less. Diesel is now about 1.36, I think.
