The only one I know, apart from the obvious ones, is the Romanian one. that's free to air, like UTV. They show Sheffield Wednesday games at the same time as Viasat.

I'm not sure I see your point... Urheilukanava is owned nearly 70% by Sanoma through SWelcom, and about 18% by MTV3. It has nothing to do with YLE.TampereOwl wrote:Of course they'd have flogged it to YLE. I really don't think you understand the Finnish rights market. Can you tell me the name of the moneybags, behemoth of a company that sponsored the transmission of Tampere United's away leg at Levski Sofia? If they hadn't stepped in the day before the game, it would not have been on TV because Urheilukanava hadn't bothered to buy the rights and market it properly in advance.
Urheilukanava apparently bought the rights to the home game - or was that, too, decided at the last minute? The question probably is, how much were Tamu and Levski asking for the privilege of showing the game - and did this seem to YLE like money well spent in terms of audience return? YLE presumably thought so in the case of Rosenborg at home, but not a wet night in Sofia.
It would be interesting to see what the audience figures were.

It would indeed be interesting. TamU and Levski had nothing to do with it, they'd already sold the rights to that lovely organisation I linked to on the other thread. The price went a lot higher after TamU won the first leg, but UTV had thought that the tie would be finished by then and hadn't even made a bid. The price was still not astronomical, but still higher than they were willing to pay. I don't know how much it was, but the balance was tipped by Orivesi Hotel sponsoring the broadcast. How many hundreds of thousands do you think they have in their discretional promotions budget?
My point here is that Finnish media organisations have strange priorities, that help to perpetuate the status quo. YLE are the most visible and the most susceptible to people like me withdrawing our custom, so that's what I'm going to do. My liver can take a bit more punishment yet.

I'm sure they are quaking in their boots. Make sure you do it before June 7th*.TampereOwl wrote:It would indeed be interesting. *And no peeking at the direct feeds on the Net, either.

They've lost a fair few thousand already this year, haven't they? Can't afford to keep losing custom. And I may reflect on this over June - it's a very big decision, after all.
They're the only reason I'm considering it, to be honest

Great coverage from yle, ending their transmission before the cup was lifted.
