Good Lord, I was a bit lost there! 
Yes, then I watched this Luksuskaubad ad and there was a text "vaibad", and I started wondering, "they sell china, oriental rugs and diapers/sanitary towels, what the heck?!"
Then I realized that maybe vaibad refers to fabrics or something... Because in Finnish, there are several meanings for the word vaippa: in biblical language, it means robe or something... And then you get things like Maisema peittyi lumivaippaan etc. However, nowadays the word usually means babies' nappies, as everyone knows...

By the way, I found some Russian ads from the Soviet era. The part advertising men's suits is somehow creepy! The guys look like they have just murdered someone!
And the selection of colours in clothing kinda reminds you of this guy, eh?
(However, in general I'd say that the 80's fashion was quite horrible EVERYWHERE, and the tv commercials just about equally embarrassing, in any country
)
