wattypiper wrote:Don't know about your 'welcomes' but I wrote the 'PLURAL of cornerstone: cornerstones - ie one of them.' I realize your drawing is meant to be sardonic, etc. but truly the 'Culture of Food' is a VERY important part of any society. You have to know it is a key part of any anthropological studies, etc.

Eating is an absolute requisite of survival and the total economical and social organization of a group must be very much oriented towards food supply and the various ramifications thereof. So it is nonsense to just pooh-pooh it - and anyhow the title of this FORUM is Culture and Cuisine - so if it is irrelevant to those commenting here WHY in hell are they even clicking this topic?? Why not go straight to 'the fun of chewing gum with mouth open' etc?
But, jani... I've always enjoyed your posts...and I've said this before.

But why do you have to "hide"??...always "incognito"??...Do you think we're stupid??...Well..yeah, I guess some of us are...

Now, jani, one thing, though...why are you such a "food snob"??....

Jani???

What on earth are you going on about as per 'food snob??'

This is the CUISINE part of the whole forum. Not the section on mud wrestling or trailer repair!

I care very much about how food tastes and so do millions and millions of others. I didn't invent the heading 'culture and cuisine.' It isn't even just 'cooking'

And this has little do with spending Euros.

Or maybe a thread should be started on finding ways to cook corb flakes? The ones with 20% sugar

So do I - that's not the point. The whole point is, why label some people "uncivilized" and "ignorant" just because their tastes may differ from yours? Your personal opinion on this or that sausage doesn't really mean much as far as I am concerned, at the end of the day it's just an opinion. But what's the bloody point of posting about food at all, if the message repeatedly is "I tried X and I did not like it - boo hoo". Doesn't sound like someone who enjoys trying out different things - at least I can't remember my late rotisseur uncle (bless his socks) ever whining about something he did not happen to like. He just tried something different, or prepared the stuff in another way - or if he didn't like the product, simply bought stuff he knew he would like.

But he had real experience.

I seriously thought you were this janiheis / rondbladholm guy. Despite his disturbingly similar 'whiney' opinions and writing style to yours, if you pardon me the expression, IIRC he at least had a long history in Finland and supposedly had been involved in the food business & culinary circles somehow. But a quick check revealed that you only joined quite recently so I guess he was another guy after all.

So you're not him. I'm sure we'll all keep that in mind in connection with your further culinary commentaries. This other guy at least occasionally posted some recipes like the Spinaci alla Romana which I hadn't prepared before, but which has since become one of my "quick to prepare" veg favs.

Mud wrestling, trailers, chewing gum, corn flakes loaded with sugar... sorry, not my cup of tea at all, I associate those things with quite another country than where I'm from :D

The whining if you would like to call it that is that when there is a National Standard of the HK Sininen type it pushes other stuff from coming onto the market and also begs similar products. There is no such problem in France Spain or Italy. Quite the opposite. Needless to say fortunately the food scene in Finland is light years ahead of where it was 25 years ago.

Let them have Sininen and I can eat it if hungry, though my memory says it has been better, a good cheese melted on it even a bit of A1 or HP and it fills the biomass need

I still would say that good food is a part of civilization. We havent eaten bark in centuries.

 Well...I'm not so sure...I still think it's janiheis...but I'm glad to see him back.... Always entertaining, aren't you, jani??? But why always the "barbs"???....

It seems you don't like "American cuisine" very much do you, jani???.... But I find there is one really neat thing about the USA...you don't actually have to eat all that sh*t they produce...they also produce good stuff, too, and you can eat that if you want... I don't eat cornflakes, nor do I chew gum...

I was down in the good, ol' USA on Saturday....had a taco omelette...I'll let you imagine what that entails, but I bet you can't get that in Finland... :) I thought it was pretty good, but then I'm no "gourmand"...just a backwoods "plouc canadien"...

The US, because of size, wealth, ethnic diversity, etc. offers some of the best possibilities for getting great ingredients and even at reasonable prices. And there's good stuff in restaurants if you avoid the big chains and use a little effort, and also without total fortunes being spent.

I always come back with 2 loaded suitcases, stretching hinges and baggage limits.

By the way, there are probably a million Finns walking around now chewing gum with cow-cud chewing style, except the cows keep their mouths closed.

A gourmand is a glutton (quantity over quality), not a lover of good food. That would be a gourmet (quality over quantity).
Here in Finland, I have done everything I can to blend-in with the Finns, I've changed my hair color, wore differnet clothes, got different

As a sidenote, what's your obsession with chewing gum? It's repulsive enough to start with.

But it may comfort you to know that you're not alone with that opinion.

I doubt anyone wants him there either. I at least wouldn't and I am not even living there right now. I would feel bad for my family and friends there.

wattypiper--- It's just sausage... if you don't like it, don't eat it! If someone else wants to eat it, then let them, how does that affect your life?

That could be said for just about EVERY post on this forum commenting on the quality of anything! I really wonder why 93% of this forum exists at all - or?

Awww...jani....I think you're too hard on the posters in this forum...93%!!!...I think only about half of them are idiots...maybe actually a bit less than that...

But, hey, why always the "putdowns" for those with different tastes, whenever you describe some "gourmet' food item???

Why not just describe it and leave it at that??...

Mutta, mikä sinä olet jotakuta neuvomaan?!?... :)

....I remember once having a "peanut butter hamburger"....  I think it was somewhere in Canada...

A somewhat upscale or "gourmet" version of this:

Fortunately, to my credit I think, I can honestly report, that even though it was featured as a "gourmet hamburger"...I didn't like it... :)

Peanut butter and ground beef don't seem to be a good match...

Hey, now how about poronkäristys maapähkinävoi kanssa??....mmmmm, num, num...
