Yes, but they "work" as in get salary from Eesti Karvaperse OÜ who has subcontractred them to work for Ab Perskarva Oy in Finland, so they get their salaries in Estonia in crowns.

How are they integrating by the way

why would they need to integrate? if I live in Espoo nd work in Helsinki, do I need to integrate in Helsinki? Right.

Anyway Hank. Let's say I give up. How much vero will want on top of a 2002yr, 6000eur automatic Mazda 626? And wht does the importing procedure look like, how long does it take nd all that? And wht happens if after a while I'll really decide to restore my native residency and move back to Estonia with the car?

Well, automatic Mazdas are rarer than chicken teeth here, but I'd say a 2000-2003 626 is about 8-10K depending on the mileage.
Which has nothing to do with what you paid for in wherever. Now if I could be arsed I could flip open the Tulli PDF files and try and find if someone brought in such a car and give a stetson evaluation, but say they'll ask for 2-3K + 22% VAT on top. So if you leave and move out... then you have a very expensive piece of tax covered in rust. See you should have had the car and brought it here before you moved over. Thats how unfairness of life works ;) Otherwise why do you think I drive a 1988 LeMans.

First, you need to get the paper from Tulli immediately after entering the country. This is usefull, since as a resident you are not allowed to drive the car here with foreign licence plates for even 1 minute. That paper gives you the right to drive the car for 1 month usually, until you register the car.
Then you go to Tulli, Vilhonvuorenkatu if I remember corectly. There are 2 ways of calculating the tax, the standard old one, and a new one based on pollution norm (EURO2, E3, E4) and car's weight. You can choose which way do you want your tax being calculated (you have some tables with weight, pollution norm and tax on tulli website).
Then it depends how much is your car worth on finnish market (customs catalogue). I estimated a figure for my car, based on what it was on nettiauto.fi, and it was very close to that. In my case, the car tax based on pollution norm was about 30% of the car's value. So you can expect at least 2000 for your car, but there are some pdf with cars registered every month and how much the tax was (on tulli fi, I have found the link on this forum in one of Hank's older posts - they are only on the finnish version on Tulli.fi).

In order to prove that you have stronger connections to Estonia, you need to own a place in Estonia (normally optional, but since you own a place here also...), have your family there and stay there at least 183 days of any period of 365 days.

thank you guys...

I also ran a search on autotalli.. those people are insane!! noway I'm paying that!

as for connections with Estonia - yes, I do own a place there and have family.. But 183 days is a bit difficult. I mean all my time is divided into more or less equal thirds: Finland, Estonia, Everywhere Else. So if there's no such country where I spend 183 days out of yer - it means I can't be resident of anything? :o :(

Then your working contract must prove that you don't work here more than 182 days in any given period of 365. If you have permanent employment contract in Finland, end of story from their point of view. Business trips don't count as residency in the destination state. Nor do holidays, you are not resident in Greece for 4 weeks if you spend your holiday there.

You can go work in Estonia quite freely. See now its not picking the raisins from the pulla. We all would love to do it. I'd like to pay taxes to Estonia and get salary in Norway and live in Malta.

Here I am again guys, not giving up that easy...

Ok, re-registereing myself in Estonia is a piece of cake and that will automatically "un-register" me from here. What will happen if I'll do that while having permanent work contract in Finland is yet to be found from Maahanmuutto (or whatever) department of Espoo poliisi, which has rahter restrictive calling hours. So, if anyone knows already please, please let me know! Although I don't think anyone has been wondering those things in the opposite direction here yet.

I guess it will like in American embassy where they were trying to convince me to go there for one month ASAP otherwise I'll lose ny green card. To which I answered that I don't want to go there and I'm fully aware of losing my green card but I don't care. Then they repeated their explanations and I confirmed my indeferennce to the fate of my green card. Then a whole bunch of people from their staff came out to stare at me...

Anyway, I'll find that out hopefully. What I still don't understand though it's this:

Ajoneuvon väliaikainen veroton käyttö
Suomessa
1 Ajoneuvon väliaikainen
autoverottomuus

1.2 Henkilön vakinainen asuinpaikka
Henkilön vakinaisella asuinpaikalla tarkoitetaan
paikkaa, jossa hän asuu henkilökohtaisten,
ammatillisten ja muiden siteidensä mukaan
arvioituna vähintään 185 päivää kalenterivuodessa.
Jos henkilö oleskelee kahdessa tai useammassa
valtiossa sijaitsevissa paikoissa, hänen
vakinaisena asuinpaikkanaan on pidettävä sitä
paikkaa, jonne hän palaa henkilökohtaisten
syiden vuoksi säännöllisesti.
Henkilökohtaisia
syitä arvioitaessa voidaan ottaa huomioon
myös työskentelyn luonne ja pysyvyys muussa
maassa sekä muut erityiset olosuhteet. Tullipiiri
voi määräämillään ehdoilla antaa enintään
yhdeksi vuodeksi kerrallaan päätöksen
siitä, missä valtiossa henkilön asuinpaikan on
esitettyjen selvitysten mukaan katsottava sijaitsevan.

1.3 Määräaikoja koskevia säännöksiä

Edellä kohdassa 1.1 selostettua määräaikavaatimusta
ei sovelleta ulkomailla vakinaisesti
asuvan, mutta Suomessa työskentelevän henkilön
ajoneuvoon,
jonka auto on ulkomaan rekisterissä,
jos hän poistuu ajoneuvollaan säännöllisesti
muussa valtiossa sijaitsevaan asuinpaikkaansa.

Well, considering this, it seems to me that the second section in bold confirm it possible to be permanently domiciled elsewhere while working in Finland. By the way, it's not saying anything about actually being employed in Estonia, just fulfilling job duties in Finland. It speaks simply about Working in Finland while being permanent resident of another country. Right? If that's the case then it seems that tax-free term of 6 months can be applicable for me if I'll register myself in Estonia. Or can it?

As for the first section in bold, I don't quite get it: does it mean that 183 days requirement is not obligatory if a person "lives in both countireis", it can be decided based on personal reasons?

Does it also mean that Tulli leaves it to themselves to decide where is my vakinainen asuinpaikka, even if I'm already registered as a permanent resident in another country? Or does it mean that I don't even have to a be oficially a resident of another country, Tulli might grant me tax waiver based on those "personal reasons"?

In either case, let's say yes, I have that right to somehow be covered by one of those explanations. Does it mean then that I need to obtain taxation waiver from Tulli confirming it before I come here with the car?

Uff, there's got to be a way!

1.2 where person lives.
Person lives where he spends 185 days in year. If person spends time on 2 or more countries then he lives where he returns because of personal reasons.

Basically that means if you live in 10 countries and all of them 36 days your home is where your personal life is. If you spend in finland 185 days then youre living in finland.

Thats how i understand this.

Not good..

Ok, what if the person spends 183 days in Finland BUT is officially permanent resident of something else?

Just ran a quick count of this year so far. it seems that by the end of the year I really might have spent less than 183 days in Finland.

But how will I prove the day count? Bring them all the ferry and airplane boarding pass stubs? Or Show them my wall calendar where I write with colored markers names of countries accross weeks/days that I'm not in Finalnd?
