Not that it makes any difference ...
I am a fella...just always wanted to wear a bikini...

It's 2008...We're liberated, priests and the like can have sex changes.
Jeez. You wearing a bikini, Otyi chasing birds a quarter of his age... what next... Hank sniffing bicycle seats?
I might look nice!!!!! Oh...hank...well, I'm sure he does that already. It's all good decent fun until someone loses an eye.

Ah, they're back. As sinikala implied they made a brief appearance on the shelves some years ago. Yep agreed they could be a tad more vinegar-y but still... I hope they've come to stay... the snag is that for many of us locals they're a bit of an acquired taste.

Very true - I've passed the odd crisp around...note 'crisp' not 'bag', I am that tight with them - ahah...and most people find them disgusting. The plebs!!!!

But thats good - more for me! :D

Agreed - but in a wider perspective: no demand -> no supply... I mean, unless the rest of the uncivilised plebs  are converted to worship St Vinegar, the patron saint of thinly sliced potatoes, the stuff is likely to vanish from the selection after some time.

Time to give another go at the old 'conversion by sword' method?

They've made it up here now! :D

Slightly too thick and a little mild on flavour.

But at least the description on the bag has less to fear from the trades description people than some other snacks, e.g. "Hot Rods".

We've just decided that somewhere in between these Estrella efforts and the ones they had in Lidl earlier this year, would make a decent SAV.

hahah...did you have a big discussion about it? Over dinner and a glass of wine.

I think the locals just don't like them. I picked up mine on a visit to Stockholm, got chatting to the lass in the hotel and said that I'd picked up about ten packs and she was like "Yaaaaaaaaaaakkkkk" and pulled all these 'vomit' faces. She knew them very well...her accent hinted a spell in the UK...but said she hated them. Seems to be normal amongst God-fearing heathens...the swine.

Karhu, you ever eat oatcakes on your Stokey visits?

They have made it to Vaasa too :D , Hubby brought a few packs home yesterday, a bit mild in flavour, but that may be a good thing, maybe Finns will be more likely aquire a taste for them and hopefully they will stay on the shelves longer.

Bubs - yeah we discussed them. The first time Mrs K tried SAV she thought they were disgusting - now she can demolish 300g in an evening. Living proof that women can learn to like funny tastes in their mouths.

No oatcakes, no. Her dad was a conservative ex-miner, scared the crap out of me, so we spent as little time as possible there.

Do they do the "bead cake" thing in Stokeyland? Remember someone offering me a bread "cake", and it was just a sämpylä type thing, no cake in sight....

Let's hope so. Progress is ok so far (could only go in one direction)

Bread cake? No idea, mate. Never heard of it. I'm only a Stokey cos of where I popped out, really. Mater is from Belfast and Pater from Derby/Notts way.

Oatckaes - quite nice - Basically a pancake made of oats and you stick stuff in it - Cheese, bacon etc. You can use it with fry ups on the side of the plate. It's mostly a North Staffs thing. I've got friends who moved to Manc-land and they said you couldn't get them but I think you can get them in Crewe.

Is the flavour now more "authentic" (a little stronger), or is it just me?

I thought they were pretty good the first time I tried them a couple of months ago, but it has been about 5 years since I had a genuine bag, will have to go and buy another bag or two to check :D
