...and Joensuu was one of those words I encountered quite early when I started learning Finnish.... I encountered it, first, as someone's surname, and then, shortly after, I realized it was also the name of a city in eastern Finland...


But I wondered about this word...it somehow seemed not quite as "Finnish" as other words I had been encountering.... But, of course, I couldn't have been more wrong...

One day it suddenly "clicked" ....the "missing k" ...joki!! ....consonant gradation!!...:lol:

Actually, it's a "quintessentially Finnish" word.... :D :D
