Re: HUOM! Ruoholahti parking
Well there was a big "local huff" when they implemented that... I think its bloody unfair in any case.

[quote="penelopeWhat do commuters with the city centre matkakorti do if they drive to Ruoholahti and all the metro-parking allocations have gone? Drive all the way home and come in again by train? Does anyone know approx at what time the metro-parking allocation runs out???[/quote]
They park along the highway just before Lauttasaari.

Re: HUOM! Ruoholahti parking
AFAIK the Hannasaari car park is free but as it is not so big it must fill up pretty early in the morning. I think cowheada uses that one.
BTW... I did read the article in HS a few weeks ago about illegal (as in, no money in the metre/ticket behind the windscreen) parking downtown. Not sure about the exact statistics but IIRC you could park for roughly 8 hours on average without getting fined.

Yes we should all be very thankfull to those 'green' journalists, now those ladies have better equipment, they feel much better, and they hire more of those marta's. Just great
There were times that Helsinki was like a village and there were places for free (then the foreigners came and
, sorry that was Onkko's line)

Re: HUOM! Ruoholahti parking
You are going to have to tell the people you are giving lessons to that the cost is going to go up unless they can provide a parking space for you at the teaching site. If they do find you some parking spots, your work could become easier and even less expensive.
Socialism has never managed to create anything beyond corpses, poverty and oppression.
Re: HUOM! Ruoholahti parking
Some of the places where I work have free parking. Not all. But it is the increase in public transport fares that hits freelance teachers hardest. The difference comes straight out of our pockets. And because I live in Espoo I seem to lose out more than say freelance teachers who live in town.

Don't count on it.penelope wrote: BTW... I did read the article in HS a few weeks ago about illegal (as in, no money in the metre/ticket behind the windscreen) parking downtown. Not sure about the exact statistics but IIRC you could park for roughly 8 hours on average without getting fined.
Awhile back I was downtown with the car. I parked about 3 meters from a pedestrian crossing at 7.48 (paying time starts at 9.00). When I came back, there was a ticket behind my window, written at 7.53, for parking within 5 meters from a pedestrian crossing.
Don't believe the statistics. They count for everyone else but you.
@penelope:
Get a matkakortti, but load money on it. It'll give you some 20cts "discount" compared to when you buy the ticket from the driver.

That is what I have.karel wrote: @penelope:

When I know I will be spending two weeks mostly in town every day then I load time. But then if lessons are cancelled or my schedule changes, I end up paying more than with the value load.

Ah, but that's different.karel wrote:Awhile back I was downtown with the car. I parked about 3 meters from a pedestrian crossing at 7.48 (paying time starts at 9.00). When I came back, there was a ticket behind my window, written at 7.53, for parking within 5 meters from a pedestrian crossing.

They drive around the city first thing in the morning looking for illegally parked cars. It's only the ones walking around that check if you've paid or have a permit. Forexample, there's some "no parking" in a small street which our kitchen window looks onto - the cars parked there have always been ticketed by 9am, and especially on Sundays!

Re: HUOM! Ruoholahti parking
roof racks + bike on roof + free parking in Heitaniemi = no parking cost + exercise + joie de vivre
I'm thinking of starting a campaign - 'Cycle the last six' - since 6km is limit before most people really start to sweat wearing work clothes on a bike (ask the dutch), and the last 6km gets most people into town with free parking - and any car can carry a bike on the roof.

and then there are parking places that most of them dont tell as they are legally not free..but then because of circumstances, they happen to be Free..
