Helmiä ja Sikoja :D

So, the plot in a nutshell: A gang of 4 guys who don't do anything but drinking, shoplifting and singing karakoke take in a little girl whose mother doesn't care about her. When they find out she's a really awesome singer, they decide to have her participate at some contest, with the help of a young woman, who starts practising with the girl.
This sounds SO banal, but I loved the movie so much. The idiocy of the 4 boys is hilarious already, like seriously, I giggled so much over them. The tough guy who cries when the girl sings, the silent guy who kinda looks like a bodybuilder, the gay guy who's kind of a whore, but has a big heart, and the leader, who's being everyone's dad and looks like one of my former teachers. The way they steal stuff from shops is brilliant, and the dorky habit of singing along to the "Ein Fall für 2" tune with "lalalala" XD It's so adorkable how they all care so much for the little girl and how they support her although they're just completely dumb. And how the girl loves them back and gets influenced by them and starts joking along. I keep repeating myself, so I'm gonna stop now because I'm still so full of squee.
also this guy is hot enough to watch the movie for just that. XD
squee!

Hmm, no one has mentioned Katsastus yet? Also Pojat might be worth watching, also Veturimiehet heiluttaa (class mate at elementary school lived in this building featured in that movie, which is nowadays LOAS' student housing apartments).

The first three or so are essential :) It's sort of difficult to argue that the quality went down after those initial efforst, because you'd probably be hard pressed to find "quality" in the first ones... but I don't know, there's a certain charm.

An obscure one I'd like to see again would be "Käyntikorttini" from the mid 60's... a tragicomic story of an office worker called Tauno Hiippi - it had some pretty surreal dream sequences - including the famous line "Tauno älä tapa!" (although the now perhaps bygone reputation of that phrase is perhaps due to Sleepy Sleepers...)

Matti Nykänen. Even though he’s now better-known from tabloid headlines, he was a several-times world champion and Olympic gold medalist as a ski jumper back in the 1980s. The 2006 movie was simply called Matti (IMDB); I haven’t seen it myself.

I´ve seen it. It wasn´t a great film to be honest, but painted a pretty tragic picture of the guy ... I almost ended up feeling sorry for him.

Talvisota http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098437/ is one of the best war films I´ve seen, extremely gritty. I have no desire to watch it again though, it´s a docudrama or docufiction as opposed to entertainment.

OK, I "invested" the time to watch all of Ponterosa on Youtube. It think poses some important questions.

For instance: why was it dark at night in the middle of the summer?
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.
