The whole checking thing is just for show.
I have a Uk driving licence and l am not a member of kela despite living and paying taxes here (long annoying story!)
So when they ask for ID l show them my UK drivers licence and watch them struggle for 30 seconds before realising that the UK does not have the same social security number. Then they are a bit stuck...after all they asked for ID and not my social security number. Usually they let it go but sometimes l have to write it from memory on the receipt

Ah to be tween again and have my ID checked every time in Alko... I was 29 or 30 when the cashier wanted to see my ID for bottle of beer and bottle of cider... <3
Now they ask you for your ID to see if you get the senior discout.

As part of our au pair introduction I went to Red Onion in Myyrmäki a few years ago with our new 19 year old au pair and my 29 year old Australian friend. Both were asked for ID at the door; I showed mine, but the woman laughed and said that it was not needed (I was 40). I cried myself to sleep that night, not because of the ID but because my head hurt .

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

I have a foreign last name and use a foreign card when I'm in Finland but I am Finnish. I've only been asked ID when the total has been quite high. Never on a normal shopping trip spending maybe 30 euros.
