In case this is of any help: I found the following product by googling with 'vaniljauute'.
http://www.poppamies.fi/product_info.ph ... cts_id=244
NoMU vanilla extract, one dl bottle costs 16€. One teaspoon i.e. 5ml of the extract equals to one vanilla pod, so one bottle is worth of 20 pods, so it is not that expensive either. Never tried, though.

Checked my regular store (k-chain) today, they did not have NoMU vanilla extract. Vanilla pods costed 3€ a piece.

Essence is an imitation made synthetically.

Here's a brief discussion of them:

Kitchen Dictionary on Vanilla
The FDA specifies that pure vanilla extract contain 13.35 ounces of vanilla beans per gallon during extraction and a 35% alcohol/65% water mixture. The resulting amber liquid is clear and richly fragrant. There are double and triple strength vanilla extracts, as well as a vanilla essence -- so strong that only a drop or two is needed. Imitation vanilla is composed of artificial flavorings (most of which are paper-industry by-products treated with chemicals) and it often has a harsh quality that leaves a bitter aftertaste.
The synthesis of vanillin given there is outdated information. Earlier vanillin was manufactured as a by-product of wood pulping from the paper industry. Today most vanillin is produced from a petrochemical feedstock

I also happened to be in the baking aisle of Prisma at the WE ... vanilla pods were €3.99 each :o . Vanillin sugar and vanilla sugar were side by side in little tubs (Dr Oetker was the brand) ca. €1.20 vs €1.60 per tub. There was also a local brand of vanillin sugar in bigger tubs of ca. 400g which was around €7 / kg.

Communication ends.

There is vanilla extract in Sello's Citymarket, and usually in Stockmann, it's Dr. Oetker brand.
Don't worry, it only feels kinky the first time....

The "Jenkkihylly" in CM Iso-Omena (but probably the same for other K-stores, too) has now McCormick vanilla extract. They had some other new stuff too, like grape jelly. :)

A Jenkkihylly is one damned slippery slope, IMO.

Starts with a shelf and potentially ends with Walmart and "You're either with us or against us..."
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.
