Just got the Sonera 3.6 Mbps "nettitikku" for my dad and the actual speed turned out to be 0.3 Mbps.

Are you sure about that speed? If youre in EDGE area you get max 200kb/s so that speed doesnt match. If you make common mistake and mix bit and byte then speed seems to be near maximum what is about 360kB/s. One byte (B) is 8 bits (b) and you lose some in error correction etc. For example i have 2Mb/s ADSL so i can download about 200kB/s.

Hi, C3MKY
Yep, you get a SIM card with it - well, I did.
Few things - the Huawei E220 works well, the E169 similarly. The latter is smaller, looks like a slightly large USB stick. Difference is the E220 has a cable, the E169 is also supplied with one, but can plug the E169 in directly, which most folks I know do. Disadvantage folks don't realise is the cable works as an antenna! If you're on 3G (LED lights up blue, rather than green when it 'falls back' to GSM/EDGE) then you may find you get a faster data rate (less error-correcting) if you use the cable.

Other tips - I got fed up with it always asking for a password - it's usually "1234" - so pop the SIM into any mobile phone, start the phone with the requested 1234 PIN, then, on the phone, in 'security settings' disable the PIN.
Pop it back into the mokkula, and miraculously your mothers' brothers name immediately changes to Robert!
(OK, OK, Bob's your uncle!). Same trick to change the password to something of your choosing, natch.

Also: Works fine with (tested Ubuntu 9.04) Linux, and my Asus eeepc701/eeebuntu/Xandros. Asus Aspire One running linux/linpus requires an online update, but it works a treat - google for how. XP is also seamless, with the supplied disk.
Hope that helps.
Regards, Andy, Oulu.

I'm stuck with this one also. Slower than expected and the connection drops often. Disappointing. :( Even the Sonera spokesperson admits that this speed is unrealistic:

I am considering ending the contract actually.

My dad managed to unsubscribe. Sonera nettitikku is totally worthless.

Well i had the problem of a 0.3 transfer rate as well back when i first got the sonera mokkula. That was during the summer. I phoned and was told that in the first few months of 2010 the network will be expanded and the ranges wider with better coverage.

In the last few weeks i have noticed my range go from 9% 3G connection to 96%. My speed tests from www.speedtest.net have been coming up with 1.2Mbps rates now.

But how does one go about terminating a binding contract? I have two mokkulas one from Sonera and one from DNA (the DNA mokkula is fantastic since i live less than 300m from the local communicagions tower and get 1.6Mbps woth a 1Mbps connection). I now have the DNA mokkula connected to a router and have no need at all for a second internet connection.

I want the Sonera out!
