Thanks for all the suggestions and answers guys.

I think we'll just stay in the travelodge, or wait in the airport, got a feeling we'll not be the only ones as penelope said there's a strike beginning... joyous!! It's only 7 hours, last year I waited 16 hours in Riga to get home, just love the airport stays and living in the sticks!!

Also, just a random question...
Does anyone know if I can get from Gatwick to Heathrow in a taxi in around an hour?

Yes it should take around one hour at that time of night in a taxi.

Taxi from LGW to LHR is going to be big bucks surely? Why not a national express jobby?

Is easyjet just an online booking airline or can one actually go to their office and reserve/buy a ticket :?:
It's nice to be important, but it's far more important to be nice.

I don't know about any offices as such, but you can obviously buy tickets at the airport. Online is just faster, easier and lazier :D

They've had problems before (in fact nearly every time they come here at Xmas they have problems).
Things are looking better for your parents now:

British Airways Wins Injunction To Avert Strike

Not a bad idea to keep that reservation, though. There must be all kinds of ways an unhappy union can wreck Christmas traffic without actually going on strike.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.
