If you want to live cheap then you can live in the boonies but travelling costs and takes time - so the equation is to pay more to stay closer. Otaniemi isn't a busy hub at all, more like a tiny dozing village... but then again you're to study and not party, eh?

Though I am a Helsinkian, I have to admit there is life in Espoo as well.FinnGuyHelsinki wrote:True, if one has housing there and wants to remain only within that area or is an avid walker/cyclist around the year.inkku wrote:Studying in Otaniemi and living there would not require any travel card.

As far as I know all the Universities require either TOEFL, IELTS or a high school qualification in English (eg if you took the IB diploma in English, or A levels). And I think this is now pretty general (ie: including in the UK). The Finnish universities upped their minimum requirement to 6.5 (IELTS) this year which has made entry slightly more difficult for foreigners. Apparently you need to provide the certificate when you make your initial application. It is now almost impossible to get a TOEFL/IELTS test date before the deadline in February for those wanting to take it in Finland.Oz_Mouse wrote:Hi!
I'm going for a Bachelor Degree in Finland. Would you tell me if there are universities that don't demand TOEFL or IELTS.
Student from my country (Ukraine) just applied online at http://www.admissions.fi and passed exames in the embassy. Now she has been studying at Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences.
I'm sorry, if my grammar is wrong.

I wasn't implying that there isn't, but Otaniemi is only a part of Espoo, a city which is fairly spread out, with shopping centers, the city center etc. a few kilometers away. It's possible to buy single fares (or go by foot/bicycle), of course, but sticking to Otaniemi (or any single part of pretty much any city) is not a realistic option, IMO.inkku wrote:Though I am a Helsinkian, I have to admit there is life in Espoo as well.
