Who do Finns mercilessly pick apart foreigners' Finnish...

As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Perhaps it is just you?misu wrote:yet foreigners/non-natives are supposed to ignore the many mistakes of Finns' English? Every time I make a post on Facebook or somewhere else making a statement in Finnish, one minor spelling or grammar error will result in 20 Finns jumping in to correct and point out my mistake. No one commenting on the actual content of the message or anything, just wanting to point out how my 99% correct Finnish sentence isn't 100% correct.
I don't recall this ever happening to me, I've seen it happen a couple of times to other friends but it was def friendly teasing, and only one or two comments.
Then again, I don't get 20 or more people commenting on their posts, nor do the overwhelming majority of my friends... We are a rather dull bunch

I guess you are in a class of your own...

If its your friends , its because they want to help you.Until your friends begin to realize your not here to be assimilated, and that you've relegated Finnish study to the perpetual bottom of the to-do list.misu wrote:Who do Finns mercilessly pick apart foreigners' Finnish...

If my spouse was Finnish , i would be learning Finnish.
Your just upset at my style of posting, i like to get a dig in to the Finns and offer some comedy, and ofcourse the hardest thing for a FIN to do, offer some insight that makes the OP go "right on"!
Re: Who do Finns mercilessly pick apart foreigners' Finnish.
Ive got a confession to make .
I cant learn it, because its beyond my abilities
I cant learn codex languages and i am middle aged so thats me.

You must be a 15 year old kid i think.
Of-course there's more important things ,i didnt come here to be Finnish.

Heres a prime example of a Finnish guy living in free country who thinks that his language should be the most important thing to me?
Mate,As part of my free agency i have deferred my Finnish studies until further notice.
And just so you know who i am , ive classed Estonian language as more important to me than Finnish(except i cant learn that either).
I just made one, according to my personal situation!there cannot be more important languages if you live in finland
Re: Who do Finns mercilessly pick apart foreigners' Finnish.

Yeah, I'll happily admit your term is an improvement on 'Grammar Nazi'. I've always felt that was a bit too restrictive...Pursuivant wrote:Finns an Dutch seem to be very familiar with this person who finds it, as they have created the exactly same termeven the slightest accent or errorkommaneuker = pilkunnussija
(you did notice I corrected you a comma there in your other sentence)
Re: Who do Finns mercilessly pick apart foreigners' Finnish.
Everyone has priorities. I know a Swedish Finn , who was born in Helsinki, went to school and lukio in helsinki and finally studied in the Helsinki university and ,surprisingly, can barely speak Finnish, that does not make that person an idiot.onkko wrote:

Also A person who temporary resigns in Finland may go without Finnish easily. Why to bother?
What do you want from me?????
