Officially, according to my driving instructor(some years ago), you have to stop if the pedastrian shows intent to cross.

Especially in helsinki area, it means that the pedastrian has jumped in front of your car without any regard for life :lol:

Exactly the opposite of the netherlands, where pedestrians and cyclists treat cars with utter disregard

I think Finnish zebra crossing rule is better than must give way rule of the Uk and some other countries. It leaves space for using common sense to do things according to situations.
