Here's a little consolation I took this today morning with my telephone (have to test the new toys)

- it has some sound from the radio, but the format is only wmv (someone could point me to a free joiner/converter that understands the telephone 3gp, on XP but linux is fine too) I'll try to get a better digicam version tomorrow if theres light, the mountains of snow are quite impressing...

Nice pic huh!,, i hope u used a nokia gadget!!! Yes Hank, is better to receive some bad, but absolutely true news. And planning things carefully is always better. Dont be afraid of being rude, so thats the name of the game here in Mexico. No body ask me, but im about to become a DVM ((a vet)). Just as i said, im one of the very few fortunated young people who have more chances for success in here in my country., so i have enough time for planning it yet. And taking a plane and a suit case full of money and then invading Finland isnt the best idea,,(((but being sincere to you, that image used to burn my brain some times  )) and that thing of the fish factory in Norway((Tromsø, Spitzbergen??)) sounds like a great adventure, but maybe ill take that oportunity another day 8) ,, thanx dude,, keep in touch.

How's your "spanish act"? You're probably a bit late for this one from December04, but there will be other chances:

I think all Neil was saying is that it so much trouble to get to Finland, REALLY make sure that you want to come.

His company flipped a large bill for a guy to work and he just left. It costed the company money, and ruins trust between employee/employer when stuff like that happens.

Or, the employer is sticking out for someone "local" that will be meek and happy to get a job, with a PhD and 3 other degrees and happy to get 2000 a month instead of some foreigner with silly salary demands and awkward questions about Christmas bonuses and speaking English in the meetings...

Bingo! :)

Finns like to hire other Finns, they "know" they're dependable and ontime as other Finns are.

With 480,000 people unemployed people grab for whatever job comes along. It's odd how we don't have more work here.

Well, yes and no. Finns like to hire other Finns as there is the "silent understanding" of things - how stuff is done. You know a persons background - you know the schooling, they know you know they know you know...

about being dependable - there is a cleaning company in Helsinki that rather hires foreigners than Finns. Bottom line being that if they get a Finn to work in the job, they'll disappear on a binge after payday and thats it then. Foreigners being much more reliable in that sense.

Meksikosuomen: It's great that you are exploring options to live and work abroad, but as you've chosen Finland you're making a big challenge for yourself.

No offense but....in a way I can understand the purpose of some of the discouraging replies. I am also a non-European foreigner and back in the late 90's when I was dreaming of living in Finland, most Finns tried to discourage me from moving here (at that time I didn't know any other foreigners here so I don't know what their advice would have been) and now that I've been here for several years, I can see what they meant and these days I am thinking that maybe I should have listened to them.

However, any foreign experience is valuable in one way or another. If you really want to try living here, I'd second what others have recommended that you should come over as a student and use that time to see if you want to stay and if it's possible to stay.

I think what most people are trying to say is that if you should go for it if you really want it, but if it turns out to be more difficult than you expected (either the bureaucracy or culture shock); don't say we didn't warn you

So what Neil said about the "pinche cabron mexican""was true?? I feel so embarassed, i´ll left my patriotism aside, and i must have to recognize that mexicans use to be like that in all kind of situations. Have you ever heard about a mexican doing it great in a Foreign country?? neither me, with just a few exceptions, principally in soccer and some other sports. Mexicans use to have the tendency to miss their country, i think, they miss the, how can i say it?? the""funtional disorder"" that characterize our country, and the family and the friends, but in almost a pathological degree, and of course, much will never feel comfortable in an ordered and "clockwork" society. Is a shame.

Oh don't feel bad! It's not your nationality! :) Alot of foreigners can't work in Finland. They make it SUPER tough to get a job here. Alot of Finns we know can't even find work, and they're native! My dad in law has alot of Lappish friends and they won't be hired in Southern Finland due to stereotypes and all. :(

It has nothing to do where your from! :) Alot of people try it here and just go home, Finland is a hard place to adjust to. Caroline is right though, come here as a student! You'll experiance Finland and you can decide if you want to get a longer residence here!

I'd never base anything on one nation of people. Each person is different and has a different drive in life. I didn't mean to squash your dreams of coming to Finland! If I were you I'd fly up here and just check it out. I did that for 6 months off and on before I moved here :) Good luck and I hope you can follow your dreams!
