moving the pets
Officially in Holland they asked 6 months but the vet helped with the date on that. Your vet will be able to answer all questions on the specific country you come from and what all is needed.mumboman wrote:is there a requirement on how soon before you leave that he needs to be chipped. I know the vaccinations must occur after the chip. But is there a guideline on how much time before.

I came over here in May of last year (04) from the United States and when I did all the research about bringing my cats (I have two) over here, NO WHERE did it mention a tattoo or microchip. Is this something new?
All I had to have was the USDA International Health Certificate (which also stated their rabies vaccination history), the form stating I treated them against Echinococcus (which must be done 30 days prior to leaving) and that was it.
Also, NO ONE in customs even acknowledged I had cats. So, I would say not to be too worried about that. As long as you have your paperwork, the Finns don't seem to care. They don't even want to look at it.
As for flying with your cats on the airplane, DO NOT give them sedatives. This can be very dangerous to the cat.
I would reccommend travelling with the Sherpa Backpack. It fits under the seat of the airplane and you can carry it like a bag, a shoulder purse or as a backpack. I found the backpack option to be REALLY useful since I didn't exactly have extra hands to carry my luggage AND the kitties.
Another great feature is that at the back end, there is a small zippered area you can unzip to check on the cats without having to open the bag up and risking them escaping.

Pihlaja: These rules came to power only in Nov 2004
I've travelled with pets (during the new rules time) that got a microchip and a booster (i.e. not the first vaccination, just a yearly booster) vaccine a day before travelling... The microchip must be put before or at the same time with the vaccinations, no other rules as far as I know and understand.

Ah-hah. It seems I lucked out then!emimi wrote:Pihlaja: These rules came to power only in Nov 2004I've travelled with pets (during the new rules time) that got a microchip and a booster (i.e. not the first vaccination, just a yearly booster) vaccine a day before travelling...
